Moving forward with Composr

ocPortal has been relaunched as Composr CMS. ocPortal 9 is superseded by Composr 10.

Head over to for our new site, and to our migration roadmap. Existing ocPortal member accounts have been mirrored.

ocPortal 8.1 released

ocPortal 8.1 released Version 8.1 has now been released. Upgrading is strongly advised.

To upgrade follow the steps in your website's http://mybaseurl/upgrader.php script. You will need to copy the URL of the attached TAR file (created via the form below) during step 3.

Your upgrade to version 8.1

You can generate an upgrader from any version of ocPortal to any other version. If you access this upgrade post via the version information box on your Admin Zone front page then we'll automatically know what version you're running.
If you'd prefer though you can enter in your version number right here:

(usually blank)

(example above is for upgrading from 4.3.2 beta1)

This version fixes all bugs found since 8.0.1. It is primarily a patch release, however some new features have been added that were considered important.

Also the following new options have been added:
  • Accessibility: disable advanced uploader (note that a better choice might be installing our plupload addon, which allows HTML5 upload)
  • Accessibility: disable WYSIWYG editor
  • Accessibility: disable syntax-highlighted code editor
  • Accessibility: disable Javascript overlays (use default browser window management instead)
  • Accessibility: disable AJAX category selectors (use simple dropdown lists instead)
  • Disable automatic hacker banning (for emergency use if a hacker tries to get other members banned by getting them to trigger hack-alerts)
  • Enable 'likes' instead of ratings
  • Only allow users a single guess at each CAPTCHA image (helps reduce spam, potentially annoys users a little more)
  • CSS-based CAPTCHA (much less likely to be cracked by bots)

Most of these options previously existed only as unofficial hidden options - and if you used them you should update your settings after upgrading to officially set them. These options are actually phrased in positive form in the configuration and therefore are all defaulted to on.

  • Some OcCLE commands have been added for debugging badly performed upgrades
  • The upgrader is now better at helping correct badly performed upgrades
  • The theme image selection screen is a little easier to use
