Moving forward with Composr

ocPortal has been relaunched as Composr CMS, which is now in beta. ocPortal 9 will be superseded by Composr 10.

Head over to compo.sr for our new site, and to our migration roadmap. Existing ocPortal member accounts have been mirrored.

Brief update

Brief update Hi all,

It's been quite a while since we've put out an update. I wanted to just say hello here quickly, to reassure people the developers haven't disappeared, and that v10 is absolutely still in development.

The reality of our business (ocProducts) is that when we get a lot of client work in, ocPortal development has to take second place. It's not ideal, but it's the only way we can pay the bills and continue ocPortal as professionally-managed. Maybe one day it'll be a realistic prospect for us to use something like Kickstarter to fund development, or for ocProducts to be large enough that we can subsidise full time people working on ocPortal whatever the client-work workload. However, for the time being (and the last 10 years), we just have to work hard and juggle like crazy ;).

The good news is, the longer things take, the more awesome the next release. Almost any professional work we do results in improvements going back into ocPortal. For the last 6 months or so we've been doing a great deal of mobile app development (iOS and Android), as well as improvements directly to ocPortal (for example, the quiz system). I have nothing currently to announce regarding mobile, but there's a fair chance of some cool possibilities in the future for this.

There isn't a great deal of work to get v10 done, except in some areas we haven't really discussed openly yet. I hope to be able to reassign myself back onto it in the very near future, and get us over the final hurdle.

That's all for now :).
