Putting our support where our ______ are!!!

Okeedokee, hopefully I've got everyone's attention with my colorful headline.  Amichan has done very nicely in building her ocPower support website, and I plan to rebuild the ocPortal webring.  Both of these things are useful for our community, but they aren't enough and I want to do more.  So here is what I am proposing: Each week we target one thing like a site, a magazine, whatever.  With the target chosen we go there to write reviews in support of ocPortal, or to request that they cover ocPortal, or add it to their lists. 

These letters MUST be honest and, to be frank, I don't want them to be form letters unless we are doing a specific kind of targeting for a specific purpose.  If you want to post your same review on multiple sites for instance, that's fine, as long as it is your genuine opinion.  We should not copy each other's reviews, however; this undermines the very purpose we are working toward.

So, where do we start?  I have the perfect place, HOTSCRIPTS: http://www.hotscripts.com/Detailed/32832.html .  This is a direct link to the ocPortal listing on Hotscripts.  Its already got one review on it from one Hotscripts member–an important, highly influential, handsome…. errr… I'll stop now –so click on the link, register with Hotscripts (I am not affiliated), and give a good honest review and rating.  The more reviews we can get for ocPortal, the more valuable input people will have in choosing they portals and CMSs, and the more weight they'll give to this fine product. 

We've been talking about supporting ocPortal.  This costs nothing save for a few moments.  C'mon and do it…..
   

This sounds like a good idea and I had the same thing in mind. I have already tried going to every support and ipb add on site I go to and reviewed it so this is going to be even better.
O did I tell you I tried to get opensource cms to list ocPortal?

Yes, your enthusiasm and efforts are just what is needed.  I like your ideas, we'll follow them up.  The only reason I'd like to try to do it this way is to try and show the community as a force instead of piecemeal, which I fear is how we've appeared up to this point.  I certainly don't mean to discourage anyone from taking the initiative of supporting ocPortal in their own way; I'm open to any ideas and we need all the support we can get for this campaign.  

However, if we combine and coordinate our efforts here, or at your site (somewhere, somehow), then we can create momentum.  

BTW, the site you mentioned, is that the site actually called "opensourcecms" or is it one of the similar ones?

One last thing: I want to build up some ideas and begin scheduling them.  One of the other ideas that I had immediately was to followup the Hotscripts campaign with one at CMS Matrix.  These campaigns should be good ways to help generate nice publicity for ocPortal and get it on people's 'lists'.

I could not agree more and yes it is the site with that name.

Wonderul, I'm glad that we're on the same page.  If others agree what I'd like to see is folks post back here a quick message saying two things:

1. That they have posted their review with Hotscripts.  (Hotscripts reviews the submissions and can be slow sometimes, so it may seem like no one is doing this if we don't make an effort).

2. Suggestions for future 'targets' as well as organizational suggestions and so on.

So, let's say that from now to next Thursday, September 21st the ocPortal user community will make an effort to register our opinions over at Hotscripts.com (at the link above) and we'll report back here to verify our progress.  Sound good?

Although I had posted a review and member rating some months ago, I've gone ahead and added a visitor rating, which I had never done.  So I figure anything more than that is definitely stuffing the ballot box, so to speak, although I have little doubt that some of the other scripts' supporters probably do that.  Still, I think that anyone who can justifiably write a review should go ahead.

Also, I'll reiterate my previous suggestion of following this campaign up at some point with a similar one at CMS Matrix.  That website has a slew of CMS/portal systems listed and rated.  Unfortunately, ocPortal has only a few ratings and they are, IMHO, well below where they deserve to be.  So we need to input our voices there and turn things around….

but that's for the future.  For now, let's hear about  those Hotscript review submissions!!!!!

Wonderful!  It will take them days, if not weeks, to register these new reviews at Hotscripts.  So I wouldn't expect any immediate changes to the numbers quite yet, but I'm happy to see the visitor rating has climbed up a bit.

Ya, i'll help. Got some more time to spend in ivtober if all is right. Going to get a new job and i'll be home every night!! Finally after 6 years i'll be home every night.

Dutch Translation is progressing to slow to my feeling tho.. I have to find a way to translate it quicker..

Yeap, like i typed on a personal topic between me and Political Voice, im willing to cooperate with some kind of design, reviews, uhmm, advertising and maybe the Spanish Translation of ocPortal, but it seems like that taks takes some time to complete, so yea, might take a while

I am even making a fan/ support site for it. I mean it is the best CMS I have seen and believe me I tested a lot, even most of the ones on this site. ocPortal has all the features I need and more much more. The support on thier site is great and fast. When you report a bug they come out with a fix very quickly. I should mention if you have a problem and having trouble, they will help you out to the best of thier ability. The owner even went to the effort of logging into my site & fixing it.


Thats my review and I did not lie or copy any one either.

MC Starken, translation takes aslong as you want it to take.. Im only home in the weekends so i cant spend alot of time in to it.. My kid also starts crawling / walking so guess what im doing all the time...

Probably the most complete CMS package I've used.  There are some omissions, but you soon learn to live with that, especially when you discover what IS available out of the box

You have to think laterally, but the first thing that strikes you is how secure the package is, how flexible the layout becomes when you become familiar with it, and how satisfying it is to get 'almost instant' support from the team.

Highly recommended.  You won't regret it.

Let's see how long it takes them to approve it.

Easy, look in the english language directory and open up the ini files with your preferred editor. Thats how easy it is.

I am adding on my site to the features page that ever sence I installed ocPortal the hackers have left me alone. Well not really left me alone but they got banned automatically by ocPortal. I love that features.

This is wonderful!  Thank you everyone for showing your support and I must apologize for my own laxness in replying both here and privately.  Between being sick and the start of the High Holidays I've simply not had the time.  However, after Monday I'll be able to put back more time into our project.  I just wanted everyone to know that I hadn't forgotten.  

One last thing, I'd like to solicit ideas for future support projects.  What else should we do?  I'd like, next, to gather at CMSMatrix, but there's always more we can do and I'll need some more ideas.

I downloaded one yesterday that was only a trial but you had to pay for it to use it fully. So thats not fair.
 

Ami, I think you just incidently answered PoliticalVoice's question very well. You could petition (but please do not bother), OpenSourceCMS. I think they have a forum to talk on.
