Texas redneck checking in

Temp, If this can help? My pals global-conflict.org TS3 server id=917390 and IP: 89.163.162.206:9987  It'd be interesting if you could revitalize that block

I've now been able to connect to the TS3 server but the TS3 API appears to be significantly different to TS2 API that this block uses and the block is unable to return any data. So I won't be going any further with this :( .

&#8203 = zero width space

There are various reasons this might get appended, but you should have a look at the following, first:
  • WYSIWYG editor (although you say it is 'off')
  • Buggy Firefox extension (if you're using FF - try another browser and see if the character appears again)
  • What 'language' are you, or the Teamspeak add-on, using? UTF-8 or something else?

Finally, perhaps somebody with first-hand knowledge of this issue might step in and offer a suggestion or two!

 :lol:

Take my advice. I'm not using it!

I will have a look at this in the next few days, but yes WYSIWYG does add this (and then strips it). I'm not sure why it would be there without WYSIWYG but that sounds like a bug.

The reason we have it is as a complete fudge to make the WYSIWYG Comcode marking work (where certain tags are marked out with a background). By injecting the zero-width space we are able to stop the marking styles accidentally leaking into surrounding areas.

Hi Sahs!

Here are a few pointers to investigate:

I had a look at your page with the teamspeak3 comcode reference.
Take another look at your comcode tag, it might be different than [teamspeak3]
Your comcode tag must be referred to in the brackets. (see image)

I also find that enabling that feature helps in most cases converting out of WYSIWYG.

A common mistake when trying to disable wysiwyg:

Also to test, remove any other surrounding code other than the comcode tag itself (no box). In a none-wysiwyg environment this should give immediate results.

As Fletch suggested, a buggy FF (and it keeps getting worst these days) could be problematic sometimes.

If nothing helps, try to attach an image of your comcode tag and insert the code between a comcode codebox (you can find as an icon on your editor)

Hey Temp,

That's just fine. Thanks for trying! If anyone could have done anything with it, it's you! It is not worth loosing time over this, since the API is completely different and it is bound to change again, no doubts.

Just happy you tried!:thumbs:

That wouldn't be so bad if I didn't already have a couple of ocportal things I wanted to do already which I just can't seem get the time to finish or start (one of each).

Great ideas fellas I will gladly try them and respond but my daughter graduation from high school is tonight so i doubt I will be working on it until really late if at all. I will get back into this hard and heavy tomorrow after work no doubt.

Guys I cant tell you how much better as a consumer it makes me feel to see how quick all of you have jumped into this. This is a huge plus for me and many other guys in the gaming community since most of us just want to play and bs. I know of quite a few who like me had to just jump in and learn and have no clue how to build a site.

Since this originally started as my into thread I was thinking about others who may be interested not finding all this info about Teamspeak. (most new guys dont use the search from my experience) So should I start a thread in the appropriate forum with a proper title. Possibly someone with the ability move all the discussion about Teamspeak to it? It would make this information much easier to find for others until a addon can be made. Not to mention others may get involved that might have ideas.

This will be a great feature that will really tip the scales for a gaming clan interested in using ocportal I am very grateful many of you have shown so much interest to get it working.

Don't be skeerd its me learning ocPortal.
Take a look you never know what its going to be like.

It is always a good idea to have issue specific stuff in its own topic, creating additional topics as needed if there is more than one issue. You are absolutely right that this will make it easier for others to find the information in the future.

If the mods don't move the Teamspeak stuff into its own topic, you could at least start a new topic with a link to this thread.

  • I verified I turned off WYSIWYG
  • I was using FF but after checking the Chrome browser did not do it.
  • I am not sure on the language as I just typed the edits in ocPortal Zone Editor.

So far looks like a FF issue.

  • I double checked teamspeak3 comcode. I had been playing around with it and left it semi changed but put it back to math yours.
  • Ticking Convert XHTML to Comcode solved the issue immediately in Chrome and FF.

 :rockon:

Now I am on to a new Teamspeak quest. The box we created to hold teamspeak has a manual setting for the width. However using a Fluid page layout It most likely will not look correct on different resolutions or screen sizes. I have it set to line up great on my columns with a 25" screen but I know it needs to be able to follow the other items in the left panel.

Alright, we are on the right track it seems!

It is a style decision to go for a Fluid design, and there are lots of opinion on the subject (you can find several on these pages, but in my mind Fluid designs work best for forum only sites. You will be able to better manage the look and feel of your site with a Fixed Width, knowing that what you see, most everyone with a decent monitor will also get. If you intend to have info on your side panels going a bit outside the default 13em width of ocPortal, you can always increase it as suggested in earlier posts, and even use a 2 panel design instead of 3. But that's for another discussion in the Themeing forum I know.

As you have rightly discovered, the Custom Comcode for TS3 does not stay within the boundaries of our panels, and that's too bad. However, there is another method which would work within the panel's width, but is probably not as elegant.

Try this code on a Disabled WYSIWYG edit of your :panel_left:
Dump all your code (the one from the custom comcode) between the hide comcode.
(Hide is not necessary but it will give you a "title" and prevent long lists from conspicuously invading the look of your panel)

Code

[semihtml][hide="TS3=AFK="]your code here[/hide][/semihtml]

So no Custom Comcode necessary for this one. Try it!

Now that I have the Convert XHTML to Comcode ticked I get this new box
Should I be using Discard or Convert?
I am still getting code confusing (to me). Here you can see I just tried adding the new hide version at the bottom leaving the one we had alone to compare. The code has changed and I am using Chrome now.

Code

[semihtml][block param="main_features" type="tree" caption="Features"]side_stored_menu[/block]
â(EUR-)div id="ts3viewer_926603" style="width:; background-color:;">&nbsp;<script src="http://static.tsviewer.com/short_expire/js/ts3viewer_loader.js" type="text/javascript"></script><script type="text/javascript">

</script>[/hide]â(EUR-)[/semihtml]{$,page hint: no_wysiwyg}
What browser should I be using to make my edits Explorer FF or Chrome?
Im not getting any output I just get the hide box.

I use "Convert" .

Yes, it does look like the conversion did not work out cleanly.
It is a complex process for the editor to get it perfect each time. I usually remove the extra code and test with my preview until I'm satisfied, or start again with a clean slate.

It also looks like you are missing lots of the "script".

Try to isolate the suggested comcode just around the script. This is what I have which works fine on my test site:

Code

[semihtml]
[hide="TS3=AFK="]
<div id="ts3viewer_926603" style="width:; background-color:;"> </div>

<script type="text/javascript" src="http://static.tsviewer.com/short_expire/js/ts3viewer_loader.js"></script>

<script type="text/javascript">
<!--
var ts3v_url_1 = "http://www.tsviewer.com/ts3viewer.php?ID=926603&text=ffffff&text_size=12&text_family=1&js=1&text_s_weight=bold&text_s_style=normal&text_s_variant=normal&text_s_decoration=none&text_s_color_h=525284&text_s_weight_h=bold&text_s_style_h=normal&text_s_variant_h=normal&text_s_decoration_h=underline&text_i_weight=normal&text_i_style=normal&text_i_variant=normal&text_i_decoration=none&text_i_color_h=525284&text_i_weight_h=normal&text_i_style_h=normal&text_i_variant_h=normal&text_i_decoration_h=underline&text_c_weight=normal&text_c_style=normal&text_c_variant=normal&text_c_decoration=none&text_c_color_h=525284&text_c_weight_h=normal&text_c_style_h=normal&text_c_variant_h=normal&text_c_decoration_h=underline&text_u_weight=bold&text_u_style=normal&text_u_variant=normal&text_u_decoration=none&text_u_color_h=525284&text_u_weight_h=bold&text_u_style_h=normal&text_u_variant_h=normal&text_u_decoration_h=none";
ts3v_display.init(ts3v_url_1, 926603, 100);
-->
</script>
[/hide]
[/semihtml]

OK well for now I will have to use it as I have it. I wanted it unhidden and where it expands down as users enter ts. I dislike the fact it is obviously not lined up properly (no padding on the left) but I will have to figure that out another day when the sloppy look of it drives me nuts. I have spent way to much time to achieved so little aparent gains at the moment. Although I have learned so that is a positive. There is so much different from what I am accoustomed with phpbb. Learning my way around the forums, the terminology, and the software itself it has been quite frustrating. Had all of you not jumped in offering help I probably would not need another haircut the rest of my days.

Thank you  :thumbs:

You did very well with this one, Sahs!:thumbs:

The style control of this script is with the TS viewer script and not with ocPortal.
You can easily add padding by modifying this div:

Code

<div id="ts3viewer_926603" style="width:; padding-left:15px; background-color:;"> </div>

See: padding-left (change it at will)

I have themed phpbb in the past and "never liked the limitations". I've co-themed the global-conflict.org site and refused lately a request to contribute again.

ocPortal may look daunting at first, but that's because of the infinite possibilities it offers site owners at all levels of expertise, from beginners to pro, there's no limits imposed on anything.

It has been great to work with you.
Looking forward to do it again.:)

Cheers,
Jean

Sorry I was away when this thread started otherwise I could have been of help here as I have had a TS block as well as Server Query Blocks working on my Clan site for quite awhile now. However I didn't use Jeans custom comcode approach which I really like. Nice work.

Aww shucks. Well my timing is always the best.  :lol:  But If I get back on the TS I now know who to hunt down. Or better yet (I think) a post titled TeamSpeak in a appropriate place with the exact steps to properly impliment this would be stellar. From this point foward any questions from newcomers could be answered with pretty much a link to the post/tutorial. unless of course it was a custom theme specific issue. But even then that post would be a great resource for anyone interested in using VOIP on their site.

Thanks for letting me know for future reference.

Automated fix message

Sahs said

Nope its in the panel left of Welcome.

Im not sure if this is normal but I put this code in

Code

[box="AFK TS3" dimensions="240px|300px"][teamspeak3][/teamspeak3][/box]
and I have put it inbetween Features and Content on the left panel. But when i go back and look it has this

Code

[box="AFK TS3" dimensions="240px|300px"][teamspeak3][/teamspeak3][/box]&#8203;&#8203;
Is this normal? I do all the edits with WYSIWYG off so I am stumped on why/where

Code

&#8203;&#8203
keeps coming from.
This issue has been filed on the tracker as issue #565, with a fix.
