Tick, tock. Tick, tock. With each passing day, the opportunity to have the multi-categorization feature implemented in v9 narrows. I've checked with Chris, and though he can make no guarantees due to other commitments, he is willing to try to make this happen in v9 if we can get it sponsored soon. I am in no way trying to insinuate that v9 is near because it is not. But because this feature requires a significant database change and major rearchitecting that touches a substantial amount of code, it is not something that Chris will want to slip in at the last moment. It needs plenty of time for testing.

As I have made clear, I firmly believe that many people will benefit from this project: not only the people who would like multi-categorization but those who plan to use the "purchase to download" feature which currently requires creating and maintaining duplicate entries.

I am so convinced of the usefulness of this feature (only 1 out of 8 votes – an admittedly small sample but it is what we have to work with – in the survey answered with the "No interest" option) and would like to see it arrive with the grid layout and dynamic filtering which are already part of v9-alpha1 that I am willing to make a special one-time offer to spur co-sponsorship. Between now and June 30th, 2012, I will increase my match from 1-1 to 2-1, to a maximum of two-thirds the required 102 credits. You sponsor 3 credits, I sponsor 6; you sponsor 6 credits, I sponsor 12. Heck, even if you sponsor just 1 credit, that becomes 3 as soon as I see it. This is a real opportunity for people to get involved and make a real difference at a minimum cost.

If we fail to get the required sponsorship by June 30th, my match drops back to the originally promised 1-1 (and we may lose the opportunity to have this included with v9 depending on when we achieve full-sponsorship and the developers' other commitments).

So please join me in co-sponsoring the multi-categorization feature and take advantage of this special offer which triples the value of your sponsorship. Since those who have already pledged did so in good faith, I am increasing my match for their sponsorships, so we now already have 27 of the needed 102 credits.

Ok Bob you finally Broke me down! hehe I really wanted to wait till I could afford something more substantial but with your offer I couldn't resist buying 2 credits (a little less than $20 canadian) so their ya go thats one heck of an offer of 2-1 you've made turning my 2 credits into 6 which is nice. Good work buddy!

Duck-

Thanks so much for your sponsorship.

I suspect that there are a number of people who have been holding out to make a more substantial contribution but we have to weigh that against the  window for getting new features sponsored in time for v9. As you point out, even small sponsorships add up quickly with the 2 for 1 match. We are currently at 32% of the toal 102 credits needed. I hope this offer getsus to 100% by June 30.

Thanks again.

Viewfindr-

Thank you for your sponsorship. We are now 35% sponsored at 36 support credits sponsored. We have a ways to go but if everyone who can will make a small donation, we can get this done in time for inclusion in v9.

Thanks again.

I am still looking for additional sponsorship for this important feature. You can read above why this feature will be valuable for so many but it basically comes down to more versatility in the way you can present your content and the added flexibility for your visitors to browse and discover that content. This feature will also eliminate the duplication of effort that currently exists for people who wish to use the purchase to download feature.

If these new capabilities will benefit you, or if you would just like to give back to the community, please consider sponsoring some portion of this feature. Now is the time to sponsor because, until June 30th, I will match your sponsorship on a two for one basis, effectively tripling the value of your sponsorship.

You can sponsor and monitor/vote for this feature at 0000063: Multi-categorisation - ocPortal feature tracker

Life is full of surprises and it seems we missed the deadline for inclusion of this feature in v9. Please read my thoughts going forward in View topic: A curveball right over the plate - v10 - ocPortal.com

Just an update to those Reading this topic.

Chris has closed this issue as it has now been implemented in adifferent way. You can read about it in the tracker here: 0000063: Multi-categorisation - ocPortal feature tracker

**Note those that sponsored support credits may move their sponsorship to another feature. Chris had a suggested one but personally I am fine with whereever my credits go I will back the most popular feature people want or whatever. If people have ideas for what they think would be best for the majority post a new topic about it and I'll throw my chips in there. If not I'll either sponsor Chris's suggestion or pick one I really like (leaning on the new download permissions one myself but not overly worried)
