It also says it will process it anyway, right ;). The theme upgrader is pretty good at dealing with what is thrown at it, all the ocProducts themes were upgraded with minimal trouble.

I tried that a few times now with my site and I always get a major stack error as soon as I reopen the site.

I was a bit perturbed by Ethan's difficulties, because if it is happening to one, then the chances are good it will happen to all.

So I have upgraded the demo site to 8RC6 (from 7.1.6 - 2242 files - WOW!) and checked the different themes. Much to my surprise (being modest there) they all work perfectly well, even after triggering the upgrader's theme upgrade function.

Which brings me to the next attachment …

Perhaps the themes can be offered as v8 themes, but I still need to check whether they can be 'imported' as working add-ons before declaring that they are v8 themes!

I will get back to this topic later. In the meantime it would be of tremendous help if Ethan forwarded the Stack Trace so that Chris can take a look.

Just re-upgraded against my better judgement and again received the same stack error.

Not sure where to put it, guess I could put it here for now?

I have NO clue as to how to decipher the information in a Stack Trace, hence my wish that it be posted here for Chris to take a look.

However, I wonder whether this error that is being thrown up is coincidental to the importing of the 'theme'?

It appears that there is a conflict with an included menu block, which I assume you were displaying on the 'default' theme when you set up the site.

That's as far as I am prepared to stick my neck out - and now over to Chris to offer an explanation!

Is there somewhere better for me to put this? Wasn't sure if I should put it where the discussion about it came up or if there's somewhere else that Chris would notice it sooner?

Edit: I didn't import the theme, it was the Sunset theme I had added just after I installed ocPortal. Was the theme I had intended to use, BUT I am trying to work on making my own if I can ever figure it out.

I think this is fine. Chris will eventually pick up on it.

I may be jumping to conclusions, but you should retain the default theme at all costs and add the Sunset theme as an alternative. If you have installed ocPortal with the Sunset theme as your default you are going to continue to run into problems!

When you are ready to start building your own theme and if you think you need help or clarification in some areas, PT me and I will be only too willing to help you body-swerve some of the obvious gotcha's.

Can't make a fairer offer.

That stack trace is due to a menu link that needs changing. There are instructions on the RC5 announcement, although I thought it was solved automatically in RC6.

I don't really like the assumption that I'm going to find bug reports buried in unrelated topics. I usually do, but tomorrow I may decide to not read them anymore, and I'd hate for people to then wonder why they get no reply ;).

'Unrelated'? NOT!

You asked for it in post_83568 above.

Update: Feb 2013

I have edited the original post in this thread to inform prospective users that the themes this thread refers to were meant for earlier versions, and that the DEMO site has been closed.

However, the ZIP downloads are still available from another location if somebody wishes to take the basic structure and adapt it for use with version 9.x.x.

tempus fugit …!!

Take my advice. I'm not using it!
