3 Live sites, 1 test site and 1 work in progress site from varying release numbers of ocPortal. All upgraded very smoothly

I know this sort of comment is NOT helpful to those that are having 'problems', because I've faced similar comments in the past and been totally disillusioned by the whole process.

BUT, I must concur Hamburgler's observation, and mention that the upgrade has been successful for me on two sites.

Conversely, it is probably helpful to the staff, allowing them to concentrate on WHY some are having problems!

Mine upgraded without a hitch too....but from 6 RC3, maybe would not have gone so well from version 5

Agreed, Brian.

Perhaps I should have made that clearer!

All went smoothly from 5.03 - 6 …. except:

I had added a banner code from my site and it's showing "Critical error - bailing out" message (see at We have dedicated our efforts to creating a distinctive look for fashion-conscious men. - Sims International Male)

Banner Code:

Code

<iframe frameborder="0" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" scrolling="no" src="http://malesims.com/banner.php" style="height: 80px; width: 465px;"></iframe>

Updated one site (not live) from 5.1.0 beta1 to 6.0 effortlessly with only minor kittle theme repairs needed. My Prehistorics Illustrated site, however, not successfully upgraded as of yet. Did manage to go from 5.0.2 to 5.0.3 on that site without a hitch though but trying to make the leap to 6.0 has not happened yet.

Had not read the blurbs ar the bottom of the download page and so when I pasted in the URL and tried to proceed the screen looked normal for a few minutes and then though I was getting CPU activity and left the uploader to its work for a long time …nothing.

I'll have to read a little closer and figure out what I should have done to make it go smoothly. I'm only glad there wern't any massive screw ups with my site and it could be reopened and function as 5.0.3 untill I understand the next step.

Update BitNami virtual machine image

Would you please consider updating the ocPortal virtual machine image on BitNami (it's currently at version 4.1).  I'd like to evaluate ocPortal and prefer to do so in a vm environment. Many thanks!

Hi,

Could you drop the Bitnami guys an email requesting it please, as they are maintaining the image. I let them know of our v6 update myself but I'm not sure an eta on updating it.

Got cought up with work and didn't have time to work on the update but I'll get on it ASAP, from RC3 to final. I know everything will work fine.

Just wondering if there is a rhyme or reason that one site upgraded smoothly and the other didn't? Both started out from a 5.x version, serendipity or actual reason?

Hi, I'd be surprised any site would perform the TAR extraction step in less than hours if pasting in the TAR URL to the upgrader, unless the fix for sources/upgrade.php posted in this news announcement was uploaded first (we put this up earlier this week, it wasn't there originally – previously we were just advising people extract manually).

Both upgrades, one successful and one failed were done Last Sunday March 13th.

Didn't perform the php fix for either

Upgrade went smoothly from RC3 to final, great job!

I also got to remove openx which I've been using for banner management in favor for ocportal's built-in banner manager and it works perfectly.

Awesome work, ocp6 is the cms king with a huge distance from the second.
