Will report back if any occur after I have beasted them through various scenarios.

Fletch…trying it now  :P

Fletch, I just checked the file and mine is already set to….

# Files are encoded as utf-8
AddCharset UTF-8 .js

so that did not work. I see Chris sent it to be looked at so I will wait and see what happens. If you hear anything please advise…I am sure the team will figure it out. OCPORTAL ROCKS!!!! Best cms available!

When I did the upgrade I got the following message:

These files do not match the ones bundled with your version, but claim to be newer (so these might be bug fixes someone has put here):
-   data/ckeditor/.htaccess

By "all pages", I'm guessing it's on your panel(s), which will show everywhere. The fix is not retroactive, but it fixes CKEditor's bug. CKEditor was inserting them when editing. After the fix is applied (which I see you've done), edit the panels to remove the rogue characters, and save.

Chris, no it is not showing up on my panels...not that I noticed yet anyways, only showing on pages. If I hit edit on any of my pages and remove the characters or do not touch the characters all it does is duplicate the character and within the editor it shows up as

If I have not edited a page since upgrade the pages are fine. It only appears after I edit a page. My frontpage now has a series of four like this: ÂÂÂÂ

Ok, so by the sound of it, you applied the hotfix, and still the WYSIWYG editor is adding the special characters.

My guess is your server isn't allowing .htaccess files to do what the hotfix does.

Consider opening a free private bug report for us to look direct on your server and confirm this and test a workaround:
https://ocportal.com/site/tickets/ticket.htm?ticket_template=bug&cost=free

I'll see if I can find a second workaround to the problem also.

Chris,

Thanks. I will submit ticket. I do have a full backup of my server, database and site. My siteopens in 10 days and I cannot do anymore editing until I figure out what is wrong.

Thank you, Sheryl

I've just updated the hotfix:
0001611: Weird characters in WYSIWYG editor - ocPortal feature tracker

Turns out this was kind of our fault. We ran a third party tool that (as a side-effect) removed hidden markers ("BOMs") from CKEditors .js files; those hidden markers specified those files were saved as utf-8, so without them, they loaded up wrong, and hence the unexpected characters leaking out.

The previous hotfix would have worked for most people, but probably your server doesn't allow .htaccess files to specify character set rules, so needed the hidden markers back.

Chris, Worked like a charm! If I could only be your understudy for a year…wow. I still do not have the image for adding pics but I know where that is at….and when a new table is added it is invisible but I can live with that also…I just do not know if a new person to OC Portal will be able to figure it out if that happens to them…

Thanks, Sheryl

It is perfect. OC Portal gets a free lifetime ad on my website in the business section with others.

Thank you,

Oh and ignore that integrity checker error. In this case we've intentionally changed a file from the canonical one.

HELP! All my pages now have the following symbol appearing where I have used
the html break. The symbol looks like this Ã, if I take it out and fix it…I get this Ã,Ã, and it keeps duplicating itself. It is not appearing until I try to edit a page. I have 208 pages on my website so I am going to have quite a mess to clean up. when I view without wysiwyg the it shows as âââ. I also lost my image button on the wysiwyg editor and table cell outlines in the editor are no longer visible...YIKES.

I did do all the critical bug updates for 9.0.12 also but tracker # 1611 did not fix it. My pages look fine….except when I edit them…then the error occurs. website is www.mylibertyhub.com
