It took a few months longer to iron out the bugs, but here we finally are :). I think this will be the most stable major release we've done due to taking that time and discipline. Fingers crossed anyway . I'm hoping there will be need for very few patch releases on the v8 line.

No, all my addons show as version 8 after upgrading.

Did you navigate there through the adminzone or the upgrader? If through the upgrader I believe it goes into safe mode intentionally in case an addon is not compatible and breaks your site. That way you can remove or fix it.

That makes sense and would explain it – I went to the add-ons page through the upgrader. Now there is just the issue of the error on my fifth or sixth visit there.

My bad. Forgot to upgrade mod ocThanks. Works now.

No addons showing in the "Import third-party addon" screen.

[Edit: after refreshing the screen the addon list appeared. Chris sneaking around in the ocP tunnels? ]

Upgrade went great. No issues, except that somehow, safe mode seems to be enabled. I checked the configuration and it appears to be off. The url seems to indicate that the site is in safe mode. This was likely there before the upgrade.

Suggestions?
Avatar
IIRC there's a link in the upgrader to load the site in safe mode, so you probably followed that link.
Avatar
After my upgrade and upgrading add-ons, my site also loaded in safe mode and I know I did not click that link.

That is odd...I have upgraded 5 different sites now and have not had that happen yet.

Did you upgrade any add-ons using the "Install third-part add-on" link? I just noticed in posting another error that safe mode was set while doing this which was the last thing I did before opening my site (after all the other upgrade steps). I suspect this just takes the right sequence of events.

The "manage addons" link also opens up safe mode, in case any addons would causing the site to crash before getting there.

Congratulation on this milestone, Chris.

I know that you have poured your heart into this release (as you do all releases) and I believe you've been able to develop a sustainable strategy for moving forward with future releases.

This release also marks the first of what I hope are many community-sponsored features. Yes, this has happened in the past but this release shows much more how the community can work together to co-sponsor feature – each paying a smaller amount to co-sponsor a specific project. This allows many to participate in ocPortal's growth and development.

Upgraded from 7.1.6 to 8.0 on live site, using all 'edited' files from the cloned site as 'stepping-stones' to overcome any obvious display problems. Success!

EXCEPT

I am getting this one again, and I just KNOW that it has been resolved SEVERAL times in the past …

… all pointers gratefully accepted.

Only staff see the JS errors, it's silent for non-staff. It looks like a weird one, I will take a look once the site is open.

[ From “ocPortal 8 released” ]

I couldn't see any errors in either Firefox or Chrome's error console, and I couldn't find anything that was in the code that could cause this directly (although I am making a few cleanups of possible causes).
This should work around it in a satisfactory manner though:
Attachment
themes/default/templates/JAVASCRIPT.tpl
» Download: JAVASCRIPT.tpl (86 Kb, 349 downloads so far)

I also noticed another problem - your theme does not have guest permissions. This produces an error on the member directory. It ends up using that theme anyway though, because it's the configured default (I'll remove the message in future versions for this scenario as it's not helpful). But resolve just by editing the theme and setting permissions.

Seems we still have a few glitches but I plan to redo the update to my test site and then work out all the changes I will need to apply (I was too lazy in testing, besides things might change) before upgrading my live site. Then I want to get the grid layout and, especially, the anti-spam features. I've been hit with a slew of attempted spam attacks the last few days.

I have upgraded a few sites now and so far have had no problems at all

I am noticing one oddity with the behavior of the checkbox on forum posts in the ocPortal forums - the checkbox jumps around when clicked.

If this is intentional design, then it should jump back to its original location when unchecked.

Fixed in git.

Another strange thing is that after launching the upgrader from the admin area of a 7.1.6 site, the upgrade filename did not auto-populate. Seems like this has always been automatic in the past.

Strangely, this did not happen on the first 4 add-ons but did occur afterwards.

Uploader problem. Probably tied to the javascript error I am receiving elsewhere …

… the 'simple' uploader came to the rescue, but I'd rather it didn't error out at all.
