Moving forward with Composr

ocPortal has been relaunched as Composr CMS, which is now in beta. ocPortal 9 will be superseded by Composr 10.

Head over to compo.sr for our new site, and to our migration roadmap. Existing ocPortal member accounts have been mirrored.

Beta-countdown: May 17th

ocPortal 3.0 has a heavily reworked theme. We've gone through the main changes visible from the Admin Zone, but now for the first time we will reveal the rest of the website.

As you'll see, this looks significantly different to previous versions of ocPortal. Our goal was to create:

  • a theme that was attractive
  • a theme that provided first class navigation
  • a theme that met accessibility requirements perfectly
  • a theme that was completely CSS driven (i.e. a tableless layout)
  • a theme that provided good contrast for the most important areas
  • a theme that did not make too many assumptions about future placement and uses

From the logo to the footer, we've touched just about everything in a positive way. The original ocPortal was too "blocky", so we've crunched a lot of margins (everything is now flush against the edges of the screen), and restructured a lot of things. One immediately obvious aspect of the new theme is that the 'pretty tables' have a lot more variety. For example, some of them are curved, and others (like the ones on the left menu) are interlocking. We've actually done away with the original 'pretty tables' altogether now, and instead use a series of enhanced 'standard boxes', some of which are visible in this screenshot.

Obviously, this is simply the default theme we are packaging with ocPortal. You still have the option of completly changing the look of your website, as I've done with my website: http://www.allenellis.com/.

Tomorrow we will be going into more detail on the technical aspects of the new theme.
