Moving forward with Composr

ocPortal has been relaunched as Composr CMS, which is now in beta. ocPortal 9 will be superseded by Composr 10.

Head over to compo.sr for our new site, and to our migration roadmap. Existing ocPortal member accounts have been mirrored.

Behind-the-scenes

It was great to get the big news off our chests last week. We're rebranding, and have been privately planning to do it for quite some time now.

I do love the sounds of the new system but I am also concerned as some over the rebranding as I do like ocPortal name but even more importantly I think is the fact that there already exists a product called Composr Composr | We amplify content (although not a cms) making the branding and SEO portions of the job more difficult for CMS to gain a wide spread popularity against a product with same name. If you felt rebranding is a must I would thin something along the lines of the word community or clan/tribe in a foreign language if it sounds cool would be a good approach to start like Tribus (latin for tribe/clan) which has no competition that I can find or Tribo (the gaelic form)  but thats just my useless 2 cents.

Exciting news!

Interesting news. And exciting!

I'm still not sure what I think about the name change though. I actually like the name ocPortal, but I am weird. I liked the name CEDI as well if you recall (and still do) over WIKI. I just hope this rebranding proves successful and that I don't loose the ocPortal that I love in the process.

I'm a bit undecided about the name change too (and I also preferred CEDI) but http://compo.sr/ already exists so we'll just have to get used to it. I am sure there was a lot of thought behind both decisions. The rebranding of ocPortal is really a business decision which doesn't affect the end users directly. I just hope it takes this CMS to the next level.
