Hi all,

I'm quite often asked to do voice chat with blind users. If I understand that's probably because it's much easier to communicate by voice than through typing and a screen-reader.

It's also something regrettably I have a hard time with, because it means scheduling (text replies can be slotted in quite easily between tasks).

Never-the-less I was thinking doing something like a Google+ hangout might be cool in the future. Maybe not just for blind users, but maybe in general. I can't commit to it yet, but I'd like some thoughts on this and voice chat in general :).

  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about Composr whenever you see the opportunity or support me on Patreon.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying Composr on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Community saint

The Google+ Hangout sounds like a good idea. When you are busy, it will be much too time-consuming to schedule individual voice chats. It would probably be good to have a set agenda based on member's questions and then open it up to a short Q&A period. Some of the questions from the Q&A could then be scheduled for the next Hangout if the answer will take some research.

I think that your attempt to stay connected to the community speaks highly of you and works to better the product. As is often the case, I am reminded why I am so happy to have chosen ocPortal for my CMS needs.
