Well-settled

I have a oddish sort of problem.  I was mucking around with my bottom.tpl tonight and I must've screwed something up because I ended up with a stack-trace error.  Anyway, since my site froze up I simply went into my FTP program, took one of my old bottom.tpl saves, took the long number off the end, and save over my now scewy bottom.tpl.  This gave me back control over the site, except now my bottom.tpl info appeard in the right column!!  And nothing was at the bottom.

So…  confused, I decided to go into admin and restore from there, so I chose a good point, hit restore, and…. same thing.  I still have my bottom of the right (hmmm, sounds like a personal problem, eh?).

Now here's the real curveball: I was looking at my site in IE, so I decided to load Firefox to see what it would look on that browser.  Everything was peachy!  Either my replacement of the bottom.tpl or the admin restore (or both), worked and the bottom.tpl appeard as it should be.

So why in the world would this error appear ONLY in Internet Explorer?  What did I do?  And, most importantly, how do I fix it?

Was I helpful?
  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.
