Making ocPortal looks it's best.

Greetings,

I would like to know two things since I made the the website fluid width, 850px. I've read the documentation, followed it and saved the changes. Doing so I come up with the following issues…

  • On the site page, there is a difference in width than the Admin Zone. The Admin Zone is the width that I wanted, but the Site has a more squished width, how do I fix this?
  • How do I made the 'Help' Menu be closed by default in the Admin Zone/CMS? It's annoying when I keep closing it every dang time and there is no option that I see to stop the help menu on the right.
Thank You.

I don't think we have enough to answer you here. For reference I think you mean 'fixed' width, rather than 'fluid'.

I believe our fixed width tutorial sets it so the Admin Zone isn't fixed width whilst the main site is, and it looks like you've made it all fixed width. I don't have any objection to that, but it shows the tutorial code couldn't have been used, and thus we don't know what code you have- and thus can't help you debug it.

To permanently hide the help panel, either edit the GLOBAL template to not have it (requires a good understanding of Tempcode, CSS, and XHTML), or type this into OcCLE:

Code

:set_value('hide_help_panel','1');

Was I helpful?
  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

I think I looked into fixed width when making your theme and could not find how to do it. I have not looked since though so I will look again.

I run http://otakuplayground.com and am hopping to make themes and other things for ocportal even though I no longer use it for otakuplayground.com I still love it and feel it could go far with the right help. It needs themes and needs people to advertise for it.

I have basic experience with CSS, and the FireFox Developer plug-in is helping me customize the CSS first hand with accually editing the files which is nice so if I like what I see, I just copy and paste into the css file in ocPortal. :)
