Is it possible, via redirects or some other mechanism, to apply a specific theme to a specific forum or forum grouping? I thought I had done this in the past, however, it might have been with catalogues and not forums. Unfortunately, a wayward rm -rf * in the wrong directory blew away a site I keep for reference and I'm starting from scratch…

It may be possible to use redirects to place all the forum zone's module into another zone that uses the theme you want. You'd have to use virtual roots also otherwise you'd be able to navigate up to other forums and they'd show that same theme.

  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Thanx Chris. After a bunch of mucking around, I finally got it to work, however, this method is not going to suit my purposes. All of the links in the Virtual Forum section cause the Forum Root to be displayed which kinda defeats the purpose. I'm going to either play with the Netlink function or run 3 sites instead.

For anyone else reading, here is what I did to get to this point:

* 2 Zones including the combined Welcome/Site zone
* My link(s) to the intended forum(s) are entitled "Community"

Zone 1 (Welcome/Site) Community link:
site:forumview:type=misc:id=12:keep_forum_root=12:wide=1
Redirect for this link:
Site:forumview -> Forums:forumview
&
Site:vforums -> Forums:vforums

Zone 2 (Zone2) Community link:
zone2:forumview:type=misc:id=13:keep_forum_root=13:wide=1
Redirect for this link:
Zone2:forumview -> Forums:forumview
&
Zone2:vforums -> Forums:vforums
As mentioned, this works fine, however, when clicking on any of the Virtual Forum links, upper right, causes the following breadcrumbs to show:
Forum root > Personal topics of SoccerDad
Forum root > Posts since last visit
Forum root > Topics with unread posts
which then allows the user to navigate to the forum root which defeats the purpose of this setup.

If you can give me a couple of days I might be able to resolve this for you. It doesn't sound like a major roadblock and I'd rather you keep being able to use the nicer solution of virtual-roots and redirects.

Thanx Chris. So long as it works into your schedule and is not putting (extra) major workload to what I imagine is an already full plate, I can hang in as long as you need. Indeed, the virtual root/redirect method is much more elegant solution. In the meantime, I'll continue creating the other aspects of my site and hopefully catch some more bugs for you while I'm at it.

As a side note: I'm having a VERY difficult time finding anything major in 4.2b1. Looks like you've done an awesome job at bringing 4.x to maturity.

It's a very simple change. Try these two replacements for files in forum/pages/modules/ (I haven't tested myself).

Thanks for the smokin' fast turnaround Chris, but unfortunately, still in the same boat.

Take 2. vforums.php is in addition to before, topicview.php replaces the one before, forumview.php remains as before.

This would be a cool feature as default in ocf. I mean other forum scripts do have it so having ocf have it would make it that much better. :)

I run http://otakuplayground.com and am hopping to make themes and other things for ocportal even though I no longer use it for otakuplayground.com I still love it and feel it could go far with the right help. It needs themes and needs people to advertise for it.
