Inside the trenches

So today is the big day where i plan to grab a firm foothold on the theme system in ocP/Composer. With about a million template tpl's lol to run through to see exactly what controls which area of the site. I am guessing my 2 best friends will be the GLOBAL_HTML_WRAP and the css folders themselves. If i am wrong on any statement please correct me as at this point i am a student trying to grasp the core of this wonderful and powerful cms.

I think the biggest challenge will be identifying what does what as far as templates, the coding will be the easier side of the task. If anyone can point me in a direction to tell me what each template tpl is for it would probably save me a ton of the time.

Hey,

You'll want to check out the template tree linked from the footer of the site (the drop-down there) :). That helps a great deal. There's also a few other useful things in there.

Become a fan of ocPortal on Facebook or add me as a friend. Add me on on Twitter.
Was I helpful?
  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Will do friend and TY for the reply. Have been going around and trying to meet members and pick brains. LOL I know (new members are such a pain in the butt).

I hope that all of this work will be of benefit to the community. That is the goal.
