Grandchildren safely tucked up in bed after playing endlessly with the boxes that the presents came in. Portugal puts more emphasis on the 24th than the 25th, hence the odd behaviour.

What does granddad do with his time in the early hours of the morning? He gets mischievous!

Here is a 'tease' for a theme that MAY or MAY NOT see the light of day on this site, but I have to tell you that it was FUN building it.

The intentions are based on simple requirements:
  • Build a simple theme that may appeal to the non-geeky
  • Build the theme so that a simple variation in colour and graphics will make it different to the others, even though the same fundamental template is re-used
  • Build the theme so that ALL ocPortal functionality is accessible as soon as the theme is downloaded and activated via the Admin Zone
  • Allow the Admin Zone to be used to add or remove features, retaining the overall graphic display of the theme

Looking back over that list I realise that I may have bitten off more than I can chew. But what the hell, if I don't try I may never know what can be achieved.

Here's the tease:

The 'Navigation' panel has expanded sub-items like so:

The theme is nowhere near ready. This is simply a fun outline for me to base my ideas on. When the real work starts, trying to make ocPortal take over the actual working of the site, it may become necessary to re-invent the wheel for this bit of spurious XHTML. So don't hold your breath and expect the final product to be identical to this display, but I intend to try to stick to this as closely as I can.

Now, let's have your thoughts, and don't worry about hurt feelings. I don't have any!

Take my advice. I'm not using it!

Fan in action

I've had some luck getting the raised, rounded-corner look working, but ran into problems when viewing with IE6 and IE7.  See the Topic I started: View topic: Floating, rounded corners, fixed-width theme - ocPortal

I wish I had more time to get into this, but lately my day job is keeping me busy, even through the night.
