Well-settled

Hi,

Would people recommend using the built in ocPortal uploader thingy for changing stock images like the arrows and emoticons (and which creates images in the custom folder), or just FTPing in replacements (which would be quicker, but overwrites the images in the 'non-custom' folder)?

Thanks!

We built ocPortal with the philosophy that you should never need to fire up an FTP client after installing it. However, many people prefer to including myself, and in this is a case where you'd probably save time that way. However always use images_custom, as we do sometimes change the original images in upgrades (e.g. if we can improve the compression or notice a gamma correction problem). If you put the image into the equivalent place under images_custom and empty the theme image cache, that'll work.

  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.
