in order to develop a new theme

So I have designed a new static theme for a working site which needs to be "ocportalized", but there are several thousands of entries in it and working on a mirror local copy is out of the question, plus I want to see how it behaves on the real live server.

I know there is an option for users to select their own theme which I disabled back in version 4 and I can't find anywhere to turn back on in 7, major possibility that it's right there in front of me, mocking me that I can't see it.

What I really want is to have my Developer user with administrator rights able to see the site with an alternate template than the rest of the people, so that I'll be able to work on the theme and view the changes while I'm logged in this account. Is it possible, even through tinkering in the database to force this user to use the theme I'm developing? (of course it is, it's OC Portal we're talking about).

Just append &keep_theme=blah to the URLs.

Theme choice is available if at least one zone is set to work off a user choice.

Was I helpful?
  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Thanks Chris, should have thought of that. :)
I created a new zone called beta and I switched it to use the theme in development and gave it rights to a certain group of people I want to be able to access it, so that works perfectly!

Looking forward to implement all the new facebook related goodies. :)
