The eagle-eyed will have noticed we've started uploading some commercial themes. We have a large number of these that have been in development for over a year, and over the next couple of weeks they hopefully will all come up. It's quite an intricate process to make sure that each theme is properly reviewed and packaged, and it'll take us a bit of time to iron out our process smoothly, but you will see see a stream of awesomeness trickling through now :).

That rocks Chris! I will be advertising them as an option for my customers. Hopefully it helps bring in some sales for both of us.

I had noticed.

Perhaps I should raise the subject again, the one I raised in Themes - Easy Link, where I suggested that all themes could be displayed in their own section.

They can be subdivided into  FREE and COMMERCIAL, further subdivided (as the staff see fit) into FLASH (Jean's offerings so far), HTML (themes by other users), and even further subdivided into FIXED and FLUID (elastic?), LIGHT and DARK, etc, etc..

The list is endless, but at least they can all be viewed from a single entry point. Each could have a demo page (but, please, not using Lightbox) and several screen shots.

The current listings should stay, as they are tied in with tutes and vids, and it makes no sense to remove them.

Great initiative!

This will add a commercial flair to the selection and help give it more legitimacy.

Looking forward to the offerings and I'll be adding a new one to it soon!

Hi Fletch,

I think we will indeed add a more prominent 'Themes' link, and a commercial section, thanks for the suggestion. I don't think we'll subdivide any further at this point though, maybe when we have a lot more themes submitted by people.

I want to give a general update. We now have our full set of 35 built themes in our review pipeline. I've decided to release these via deployment scripts when it's all done, rather than manually one-by-one, as that is much more maintainable for us in the future. Due to the quantity, general complexity of themeing, and our desire to get this all right with attention to detail, there is a lot we need to do before we can release them. All kinds of procedural checks, like image credit checks, XHTML validation, theme stability and flexibility, ensuring things aren't too hard-coded, getting final screenshots, etc.
In terms of the general bulk of the work, our processes, and our infrastructure for maintaining all this, it is nearing the end of a very long process for us. These have been in development for ages (much longer than I anticipated). Of course we're basically playing catch up here because other CMSs of course have a lot of themes, but unlike most other CMS themes, these are a lot more than window dressing on a blog, there is a lot of functionality and general flexibility and scope built into these. We've made a huge investment to patch up the only area of ocPortal that has been weaker than the competition (of course, in most we have been way ahead).

As I've found out after blithely proclaiming that I would have a series of themes ready - kinda soon! Well, reality strikes when you start trimming away all the self-indulgent 'extras', and then start to test against a fresh installation of ocP. But the task is progressing, and I am upbeat that something will be available soon.

This is an agreeable initiative and, I suspect, very welcome to the ocP Community (with a capital C).
