Well-settled

I've edited the standard OCP theme on our site and it's all working well except for a couple of things. One of these is the borders controlled by standardbox_wrap_classic. For some reason I get a bottom border on some items, but not on others. I'm buggered if I know what's going on, but I've included a screenshot with the offending borders set to white.

Did you change that file?

I run http://otakuplayground.com and am hopping to make themes and other things for ocportal even though I no longer use it for otakuplayground.com I still love it and feel it could go far with the right help. It needs themes and needs people to advertise for it.

I did edit the standard_box_classic tpl at some point. The line I changed was:

Code

<div class="standardbox_classic" style="height: {HEIGHT*}; width: auto">

Hi,

To resolve these kinds of problems we'd need to know the exact changes that led to them. Either by having a copy of your theme files, or a list of all the changes made (before, and after).

  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.

I agree with Chris which was why I asked my question.

Sounds fair enough. I've exported my theme and attached it. Hopefully you can figure out my boo boo ;)

Edit: The attachment didn't work, you can find the file here:

Hi,

You're right to be confused. This is an IE6 bug, and it affects our default theme also (it's just very hard to notice with our default colours).
It's a really weird bug, and it doesn't affect IE7 or Firefox.

I've found a workaround:
change:

Code

.standardbox_classic {
   background-color: #272727; /* {$,wizard, 100% sb_color } */
   margin: 0;
}
to:

Code

.standardbox_classic {
   background-color: #272727; /* {$,wizard, 100% sb_color } */
   margin: 0;
   border-bottom: 1px solid #272727;
}

This border, on the inner box, forces IE to properly calculate the bottom of the inner box, so that the outer box's bottom border is rendered in the correct position. The border is invisible because I chose to make it the same colour as the inner boxes background.

This is why I do not like IE6 as I can make a theme that looks great in firefox and IE 7 but it will be really messed up in IE6.

I run http://otakuplayground.com and am hopping to make themes and other things for ocportal even though I no longer use it for otakuplayground.com I still love it and feel it could go far with the right help. It needs themes and needs people to advertise for it.

Great job Chris, the problem is solved. I know IE6 is technically out of date, but there are still plenty of people out there using it so I think IE6 compatibility is something site creators need to keep in mind when theming.

Yes definitely, but it is also a great pain to all us web developers out there ;). No widestream browser comes close to the buggyness of IE6.
