Although I like this interface and have been using it extensively lately, it has been less than impressive according to my students first impressions of it:

Most images are difficult to see, some obviously having few pixels are impossible to show, but it would seem that something else is missing which would greatly improve its utility. Codenames.

If not by inserting the codename next to images, maybe with a mouse hover a zoomed image could be rendered, file name or codename could be seen.

Also, previously, it was possible to pick and chose from a list of image codenames which made it easier to find an image alphabetically when the name was known. Is this available somewhere else that I have not discovered yet?

I realize it might involve more coding than possible at this time, so I'm presenting this issue as a normal reaction from potential themers.

Was I helpful?
  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.
