Hello everyone!

I'm new here, and I'm not sure if this is in the right place.. so feel free to move this mods with my apologies. ^_^;

That being said, I'm trying to do a few things with my website (www.wibjd.com), and am unable to! .. Here's what I'm looking to do;

-I would like a banner on my website to display.. but I have gone to the "banner" area and input everything I need to, and it's still not showing up. :(
-I would like to have a DONATE button on my DONATION page, but when I clicked "edit", it just showed it as coding.. (taken from PAYPAL), and when I went to the Admin area to do it after looking up here, it still won't show. :/ ..
-I would like to be able to expand on the amount of characters available in a username. Like, instead of allowing only 12 characters for a username, I'd like to extend it to 20.
-I would like to change the icons in the forum, so that I can pick and choose which will appear as "new" and "old" topics, based on pictures I have on my laptop.

I hope I made myself clear. I can take screen shots if need be. :3 .. Thank you again!

Hi,

1)

Please give some more info about the first problem. I imagine by banner area, you mean the Banners module in the Content Management zone - that you've added a banner from there. Please give details of what you entered in each individual field and also describe the result you see (e.g. "No banners" message, or just a blank space, or that you see some banner but the wrong banner). Also there are some options in the Configuration (Admin Zone, Settings, Configuration icon, Feature options configuration page) that relate to banners - they can be turned on/off from there, amongst other things.

2)

In the editor for the page (which you get to when you click 'edit'), you are typing in content basically as it gets seen - so if you type code the code will be shown rather than interpreted.
There are two ways to enter HTML, and it depends on whether the WYSIWYG area is on or off.
If WYSIWYG is on, there's a 'View source' icon in the toolbar, that'll give you the raw HTML - into which you can paste your HTML.
If WYSIWYG is off, you need to put in the HTML using the Comcode 'html' tag…

Code

[html]
html goes here
[/html]

3)

This is a hardcoded limit in version 3 (not in version 4 which is currently in early beta testing). You can change the limit, but only by changing the code. It is line 940 of sources/ocf_members_action.php:

Code

   if (strlen($username)>15)
Change '15' to '20'.

4)

Go to the Admin Zone, then the 'Style' section, then the 'Themes' icon. Now you may or many not have set up a new theme of your own (the Setup Wizard might have done it for you also). If you have, select to edit that theme's images; if you have not, select to edit the default theme's images.
If I recall correctly you'll see a dropdown list of image codes that you can edit. These codes are originally based off of file paths, so if you are knowledgeable with CSS/HTML you can generally find out what code to change by analysing the code.
I think in your case you're referring to the 'ocf_general/new_posts' and 'ocf_general/no_new_posts' images.

A shortcut to the above is that you can usually hold down ctrl+alt+shift and click on an image, and it'll take you to edit it (assuming you're logged in as administrator and running on Windows).

Thank you so much for all your help! ^_^ I've actually fixed everything save the 1st problem. Here's what I have on that;

Codename: WIBJD
Image URL: (uploaded my own to it) (it's 500x100)
Banner Type: (blank)
Description Wisconsin Ball Joint Doll
Notes: WI BJD
Expiry Date: (checked) July 1st.
Type: Default
Submitter: 2
Importance Modulus: 45
Hits Allocated: 0
Validated: (checked)
Delete: (unchecked)

That's all in the Content Management area "banners". When I click On EDIT Banner.

I'm confused, as I want it to appear at the top of my page, and am unsure if that's where it's supposed to be showing. :/ ..

Any and all help with that would be appreciated. Thank you so much for the other help! It's otherwise all fixed save for that ONE. hehe. :3

EDIT: I would also like to know if there is a way to permit members in the forum area to make multiple posts in a single thread? And how to make sure that BLOGs are not made into NEWS on the main page? Thank you!

I was also wondering if there was a way to put a YOUTUBE video on the main page (SITE) as well as a Weather forecaster on the main page (found in JAVASCRIPT and FLASH on various websites)? :3

I tried using the HTML and SEMIHTML tags with no results save for a showing of the actual CODE. :/ Thank you!

Amy and I have just answered this elsewhere.
Take a look at this post.

Take my advice. I'm not using it!

Hi,

If no banner stuff is showing then the banner system is probably disabled.

Go to the Admin Zone, the Settings section, the Configuration icon, the Feature options section, and look in the Banners box. You'll see a checkbox 'Enable Banners', which is probably not currently checked/ticked.

And how to make sure that BLOGs are not made into NEWS on the main page? Thank you!

You'll need to edit the front page, changing how the main_news block is plugged in. The code is currently probably:

Code

[block]main_news[/block]
and you'll need to change it to:

Code

[block filter="1,2,3,4,5,6,7"]main_news[/block]

This sets the block to only show news from categories 1-7.

There's no restriction for that, but I think what you're seeing is the effect 'May double post' permission. Members without this permission can't post in a topic twice in a row (i.e. they can't reply to their post if they were the last poster in the topic).

If you want to change that permission, go to this URL under your main site URL:
adminzone/index.php?page=admin_permissions&type=specific&id=SECTION_FORUMS
(i.e. http://yoursitesbaseurl/adminzone/index.php?page=admin_permissions&type=specific&id=SECTION_FORUMS)
and change who has 'Can double post (double posting the same thing is never allowed)'.
