Hello all. I'm new to the ocportal software but it looks far better than any others that I have tried for my purposes.
I'm wondering if someone could offer some suggestions.

What I would like is to format the page so that left of the Image of the Day would be a block, similar in style to the Image of the Day block, that would contain all new comments/news.
I'm not sure why the photo is showing from the gallery.
Essentially I would like to move the News from the left bar to a space left of the IOTD in the center block.

Any thoughts on the best way to do this?

Try this …..

Code

[semihtml]
[surround="float_surrounder"]<div style="float: left; width: 48%">[block=&quot;0&quot; title=&quot;#1 - News&quot; fallback_full=&quot;1&quot; fallback_archive=&quot;0&quot; filter=&quot;1&quot;]main_news[/block]</div>
<div style="float: left; margin-left: 3.00%; width: 48%">[block title=&quot;Image of the Day&quot;]main_iotd[/block]<br />[/surround]
</div><br class="float_passer" /><br />
[/semihtml]
….. and then adjust the width(s) and whichever 'news' block you intend to display.

Any help?

One more thing. Can I change the front page to require registration to see the site without going through the whole setup wizard again?

Welcome to these forums PEI!

You can use the Permission Tree Editor:
Admin Zone ╗ Security ╗ Permissions Tree Editor
to set the usergroup permission level on your site.

You can set member registration options here:
Admin Zone ╗ Setup ╗ Configuration ╗ Member and forum options

Hoping this will help!

It is a matter of selectively setting the permissions for guests. Leave only 'View' permissions so that they can see your website, but when they click on any link they're taken to the login page.

OR

You could set up a redirect so that all who descend on your site are taken directly to the login page. But this might irritate the hell out of your registered members!

Perhaps somebody else has a magic bullet for this one.

Thanks for the reply Jean but I'm still wondering.
I had set up the software to show a different "home" page depending on whether or not the user was a guest or logged in.
Now I can't get back to that point unless, I'm assuming, I go through the entire setup wizard again.

There is a signup link on the main page and a "more" link. The "more" link goes to a dedicated login page. This page has a "join here" link but that link just takes you back to the home page.

No sign up link is available.
I would post the link to the site but I don't know if this forum allows that.

PEI,

You certainly can, and encouraged to include a link to your site. This always makes it easier for fellow themers to makeámore accurateásuggestions to certain aspect of a website.

Did you mean that you have created two separateázones for your Welcome/Site pages?

You do not need to run the setup wizard again to change most things, but if you find it easier, you can skip steps that do not need to be modified. However, you will find individual setup configurations here:
Admin Zone ╗ Setup ╗ Configuration which are better suited after the initial Wizard setup.

You can set the multiple or single Welcome Zones options here:
Admin Zone ╗ Setup ╗ Configuration ╗ Theme options
Use of the welcome zone theme on logins screens.

To display the different zones on your top menu, change the setup for each zone here:
Admin Zone ╗ Structure ╗ Zones
Displayed in menu:áWhether the zone is displayed in the zone menu (which is available in many themes, including the default theme).

Here is the link Jean.
The Bryantons
My issue is that I don't want to have the site in pubic view. I would like people to have to sign in.

There doesn't seem to be a way to sign up. When you click on "more" in the login section you get a dedicated login page. If you click on the "join here" link it just takes you back to the index.php page.

Yes, there is a 'disconnect' there somewhere.

Clicking on that link should take you to the first page of the 'join' scenario, the rules, which after you agree takes you to the form to fill out your details (page 2) e.g.

http://[your-base-url]/pg/join/index.php?redirect=http://[yo
ur-base-url]/pg/start/index.php?redirected=1

Somehow that link has been overridden by your settings. You'll need to carefully backtrack your previous actions to try and establish when/where you did it, because I don't think the template itself is corrupt.

Addendum: Also just noticed that you aren't showing a 'forum' link. It is possible that if you haven't installed the OCF forum that the 'missing link' (apologies Mr Darwin) is significant!

Yes, I came to the same conclusion after visiting your site. This is the problem you have PEI - No Forum (OCF) system, Thereforeáno members andáno usergroups are available. (See Image below showing Join Error)

Hi PEI, and welcome.

It appears that you don't want, or need, a forum, however, as Jean pointed out, you lose the functionality of usergroups. You can always remove the top panel and link to the forum in the left menu.

In addition, you can design a "Welcome" zone for your site that becomes the "start" page for your site, and visitors could be directed to login or join from there and never see your current front page until they login.

Just a thought.
