Can you remove......

Can you remove the link for the forum from the menu? When logged in as admin, it shows up where the management link is.

Hi John!

If you are talking about this menu bar, do the following:

Remove the check-mark from the "displayed in menu" in the Forums Zone Editor.

Edited: By Jean
Sorry, I forgot another element of this method to remove menu items.
You also have to modify the Setup "Theme option" by removing the check-mark from the "replace the zone menu" :

You can remove ANY link in your menus, but your question is vague enough for somebody who wanted to help not to be able to give a more detailed answer.

Please state exactly where you wish to remove this from (or any other link - I think you did this before with Brian trying to help but getting totally confused!), so that somebody can pick up on it and try to offer some relevant advice.

Take my advice. I'm not using it!

Jean's a teacher by profession, and I guess he is a lot more competent when reading joined-up writing. I guess I'm not.

In future I will attempt to not stick my nose in.

Oops!
In fact, you were correct in not quite understanding John's question Fletch. I got it because, indeed I was asked a similar question in class last week by one of my students and I was in the process of compiling a set of small illustrative tutorials that came in handy just now. lol.

Your past probing saved me from breaking my own nose on several occasions, so please keep sticking yours on things!:)

A lot of the questions in this forum are at least a little bit unclear, but that hasn't stopped you before, nor should it stop you in the future.

I absolutely agree. If no one answered every question I asked in an unclear manner, I would probably still not have my site open.

I'm not suggesting anyone become impolite, but I think everyone needs to have a sense of humor and maybe a slightly thicker skin to take full advantage of these forums.

Well-settled

By all means if I ask something unclear please let me know. I know for me, If did not explain myself well enough, I want someone to say something. I by far am not the most literate and I can confuse things. Its good someone speaks up. No one should get their feelings hurt though, confusion is going to happen on the net, so asking for clarity is a great thing. Just my .02

Don't be skeerd its me learning ocPortal.
Take a look you never know what its going to be like.
Here is the box of chocolate link.

I wish every one could see it that way  .

Because of confusion/misunderstanding sometimes I'll get a very terse response when the answer I've given was not what the poster was asking. I've even been attacked while simply trying to explain why the confusion/misunderstanding occurred.

Thankfully those are the exceptions rather then the norm in this form.

Tim

Non-joined user

I am trying to remove the forum tab from the top menu and following Jean's suggestions… when I get to the General theme options editor, there is no box to uncheck as he shows in his screen shot. I really don't intend to include a forum at all on my site, but during the initial install, I opted it in so that later I could add it. Obviously I don't want a menu item for it.
Help!

Hi Tim,

In v9 you just edit the menu I believe.

Become a fan of ocPortal on Facebook or add me as a friend. Add me on on Twitter.
Was I helpful?
  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.
