Do to the fact that both of those use the INDEX_PAGE_ENTRY  template I can not make the catagories line up side by side as it makes the catalogues line up side by side.

I run http://otakuplayground.com and am hopping to make themes and other things for ocportal even though I no longer use it for otakuplayground.com I still love it and feel it could go far with the right help. It needs themes and needs people to advertise for it.

You need to use GUID's. You can find out the GUID a screen used by using the 'templates used on this page' feature to open up the template editor. But I've looked in ocPortal's code for you this time around and this is basically the Tempcode you'll need to distinguish the different usages of the template…

Code

{+START,IF,{$EQ,{_GUID},f2550f5be8765b5d0349ee5523f739cb}}
Catalogue index code goes here
{+END}
{+START,IF,{$NEQ,{_GUID},f2550f5be8765b5d0349ee5523f739cb}}
Anything else goes here
{+END}

  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

That was actually how I figured out what template to edit.

Code

{+START,IF,{$EQ,{_GUID},f2550f5be8765b5d0349ee5523f739cb}}

 &nbsp;<font size=5><a href="{URL*}">{NAME*}</a></font>&nbsp;
{+END}
{+START,IF,{$NEQ,{_GUID},f2550f5be8765b5d0349ee5523f739cb}}
<p class="actions_list_strong">
   &raquo; <a href="{URL*}">{NAME*}</a>
</p>
{+END}
I did that and it works.
Thanks.

Might I ask what one clicks or otherwise does to open the template editor? I've attached two pics of the Start page, one in Edit mode, and I can't find any control to let me see the templates, which is the first thing I need to do. Is it possibly only available in the Registered version, or not available from the Start page?

There's a list of page actions displayed in the login box. However, it looks like there is no login box for your site, so this isn't available directly.
If you add:

Code

&special_page_type=tree
onto the end of a URL, you should see the template structure of the screen you were looking at.

 Ah, so I'm missing the Login Box display. Thanks for the alternative approach. I'll try to add the Login Box to the page so that my site conforms to the tutorials, although this site is just a sandbox installation to evaluate the software, so it'll be wiped very soon in favor of the registered version anyways.

 I don't recall removing the Login Box at any point, although I did remove a number of OCPortal-specific links during the recent OCPortal difficulties as they were hanging up the page loads, so perhaps this is my fault.

Thanks again!
David

Edit: to add the block, you choose Side_Personal_Stats. I also needed to refresh as it didn't show the dropdown for the View options at first.
