If you contribute two themes to the downloads here I will give you one year of free web hosting. It is high quality cPanel web hosting that comes with:
If you are new to ocPortal do not be intimidated by the task of theming it. Creating a theme for ocPortal is not as hard as you would think even if you do not know CSS. There are some great tutorials in the offical guide and in the community documentation that can be found here You will also find some very powerful tools for theming in the footer of an ocPortal website that have even more tutorials within them. And the default theme is excellent to start theming with, you will even find helpful little tips commented into the CSS of ocPortal's default theme. If you have any questions there are lots of us here that are happy to help, have fun with it |

If I answered something that you think should be in the documentation, please take the initiative and add it to the community documentation. We really need people to help out here and build a well-organised large support resource. |

You can't have results until you have a call to action. I'm afraid my skills are not up to par and I have my hands full with the site I am developing but I hope many others take this challenge. I agree with Duck about making it a competition but you will need to put some sort of end date in place. Bob |

I figured it probably a good plan to put a limit on it to start with and see what kind of response I get. I had a vision as I was writing it of logging in here one day and discovering I was about to go broke keeping my word. I like the competition idea to, it is a good one. |

Therefore, I like how you added some creativity should be put into it. I have a couple themes in the works that'll be offered for others, but I don't need hosting. My goal is take some free web templates offered out there on the web and turn them into ocportal themes. Maybe find some drupal and wordpress themes too and turn those into ocportal ones. |

Hello Brian, I wish to break the ice by presenting my entry with this new Theme, soon to be available from the download section. I like the idea suggested by Duck to make this as part of a competition with community votes. I suggest to wait for more entries before allocating your generous prizes. In any cases, I still have to submit another theme before becoming eligible. I wish this is just the beginning of an avalanche of new themes! You can view a demo of this theme here: Edge Edge is a theme for ocPortal inspired by the forthcoming Adobe® Edge web motion and interaction design tool that will allow designers to bring animated content to websites, using web standards like HTML5, JavaScript, and CSS3. The use of HTML5/CSS3 box-shadow techniques to highlight a set of golden steel plates forms the basis of this theme. I have tried once again to demonstrate that it is possible to dramatically transform the look of the off-the-box ocPortal CMS with very minor changes to the glogal.css file and without modification to the templates. This theme and its header animation should be completely compatible with the latest browsers such as I.E.9, Firefox5, Chrome13, Safari5 and most new browsers supporting HTML5+CSS3 and the png graphic format. One interesting observation I made is that even the Admin Zone looks smashingly good thru the lenses of this theme. Try it you’ll see what I mean! |

Looks like Edge will be quite a valuable tool. Hope Adobe doesn't go the way they are with Muse (subscription-based) with Edge. Bob |

BTW I have one theme design underway as well. I just need to cut up and code after I finish picking out my forum colors. Should be well received I imagine. |

Thanks for the good comments! No, I have no special conditional logic other than what is already deployed through ocPortal’s own coding structure. I’ve been careful to exclude graphic additions from the mobile zones of the global.css. The animation is self contained in a div over the standard logo and judging from a test with I.E.8, the animation and box-shadows simply do not render. I’ve also tested with the current browsers listed in my notes, which are all HTML5/CSS3 enabled with no significant differences. I suspect that this compatibility may go down the drain with earliest versions of all those browsers, but there is a limit to my benevolence, and my good nature attitude stopped at the stubbornness of those who continue to use archaic technology. I am convinced that no fortune 1000 corporations with security apparatus conceived around I.E.6 will ever use my themes and if their employees insist upon looking at the web through those lenses while the world is presently flooded with tablets and notebooks capable of rendering anything; I will not lose sleep over it. Looking forward to your theme, Duck! |
