Demon X wants help!

I, Demon X, am a HUUUUUUUUUU…UUUUUGE fan of ocPortal! Just a few questions, since I can't afford to purchase ocPortal
1. Is there a silver on black ocp logo I can use on the front page?
2. Can I edit the ocPortal unregistered block to an 'Affiliates' box, for neatness?

If you send us a silver on black version of our logo, we'll add it in.
You can't rename the unregistered text. However, if you can't afford registration there are other means, such as by releasing quality addons or themes.

Become a fan of ocPortal on Facebook or add me as a friend. Add me on on Twitter.
Was I helpful?
  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

I do not think he wants to change the text I think he wants to change the box on the lower left to match his site.
Do you have a psd of the logo used in the lower left as I might be able to make a gray one.

I run http://otakuplayground.com and am hopping to make themes and other things for ocportal even though I no longer use it for otakuplayground.com I still love it and feel it could go far with the right help. It needs themes and needs people to advertise for it.

In your ftp you will fine a source custom in there you will fine blocks.
Make a php file and put all the affiliate info in that php file and then upload the php file to the block or mini block folder in the source custom folder on your ftp.
After that go to the edit screen for the side bar/ panel and add

Code

[block]The name of the php file with out php at the end [/block]

It can be html too.
My about us page which is a custom block is only text.
so you really do not actually need php in that file.
SO if its for affilates just put the images and have the links.
You will need to use the html image tag though.

I've copied your post to notepad Ami, if only all instructions were so simple..

Scurless, don't be a skinflint, buy the thing. If you can speak English you can get the little sum this costs.

Not to mention that I have to question the idea of offering an affiliate program while waving under potential affiliate's noses how they too could have a site just like yours?

I am only 15! I don't even have a bank account. (btw, I'm getting one and I might be doing a PC repair thing. I'll see if I can  make some cash from that)

Try upgrades, not repairs.

People upgrading - cash
People trying to repair an old computer - no cash

Still can't believe a 15 year old cannot raise a hundred bucks or so. Car washing, lawn-mowing, gotta be something you can do? Then get someone with a bank account to buy it for you, giving them the cash.

You're 15 now, that's old to a 10 year kid. If I were a 10 year old, how would you explain to me that even though you were 15 now, you couldn't raise a coupla hundred bucks?

It's 2006, the dollar is worth around 5c of what it used to be, I'm guessing you're American, in the richest country on Earth, you're already a teenager and $135 or whatever it is beyond your reach?

Try harder. Thank about what you can do, not what you can't.

The UK pound is something like $1.70, even less excuse really. And what does your family have to do with it?
