Some help with pointing me in the right direction would be very much appreciated …

Something is calling that 'whitespace', but dissecting the template NEWS_PIECE_SUMMARY.tpl hasn't made my crystal ball any clearer.

A bit of fiddling with the HTML in Chrome's dev tool gives a hint, but the hint is so freakin' subtle it has completely escaped me so far!

All offers of advice are welcome.

Its in the title itself, as you can see:

Code

<a title="

This is a weird one. I checked your site Fletch, and couldn't see the problem. Maybe you fixed it by changing the news title's Comcode?

I'm not sure why it would happen, normally the news title wouldn't contain an <a> tag, and I don't know how default ocPortal Comcode tags would cause the blank lines if put in.

I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.

Nope!

Thanks for taking the time, and for offering a few 'words of wisdom', which I read with care (don't ever say I don't listen!), and then looked a bit more closely.

I guess it is my 'unusual' use of the soft that has contributed to this, but it might serve as a lesson to others to try and track down EVERY avenue before shouting 'foul'!

thanks … to both of you!

Not wishing to continue to flog the dead donkey, I am nevertheless intrigued by the fact that the 'image' that causes the whitespace in the title mouseover on the front page (NEWS_PIECE_SUMMARY.tpl), renders perfectly normally on the main news page, breadcrumbs, and when hovered …

Oversight or by design?

That would depend if you were a half-full or half-empty type of guy.

If titles were ever expected to contain images then you can say its an oversight, but that's probably a tough call as you can argue it any way.

If you expect titles to only ever contain just text then you can say that its by design because text titles work fine.

From where I'm sitting, it all works fine!

ocP is a complex beast and I appreciate that 'titles' lock into several different areas.

Will my users even notice that titles that have an image are showing whitespace in a mouseover popup?

I doubt it very much!

Silly me, I was looking at the main view news screen, not the views block. I should have read more carefully ;).

Fixed.
