There are three "CMS's" that get all the coverage nowadays: Joomla, Drupal, and Wordpress. This is a virtuous circle for these products - coverage leads to further coverage, and it's up-up-up – but it's a vicious circle for other deserving projects, because the louder the coverage for competitors, the harder it is for the rest of us to get attention.

I'm not going to try and convince anybody here that ocPortal can run circles around our competitors. You can see the difference is like "night and day" with your own eyes from our feature page, from the docs, from trying it out, and from the constant glowing reviews we get on our own forums. Modern history is full of examples of superior products that became eclipsed for one reason or another, it happens all the time unfortunately.

What I am doing here is showing how you can do something very quick that will really help give back to the community, and help us grow. If ocPortal user's club together and make their voices heard each time someone omits ocPortal from a review of CMS's we can set things right. Reviewer's usually aren't intentionally missing us out, it's just they themselves find out about other products from other review's or recommendation's!

In this topic I am going to post links to place's where ocPortal deserves to be but is missing. What I'd like you to do is to make your voice heard on each occasion I make a post. Maybe this means e-mailing an author, or maybe it means posting a comment. Whatever it involves please bear in mind that we want to enlighten people not spam them – so it is critical that you don't just make the same points someone else has already made there.

Everybody who takes the golden opportunities in this topic to spread-the-word about ocPortal is morally entitled to join the 'ocPortal supporters' usergroup. Through this usergroup you get a flaming 'ocP rocks' picture in all your forum posts, and get an increased quota of gift points!

So:
  1. Take one of our opportunities to spread-the-word about ocPortal, and make some people see the light (without spamming or being rude)!
  2. Go to the ocPortal supporter usergroup and apply to join!
  3. If you'd like to keep helping, track this topic.

If you'd like to tell the world that you rock (for supporting us), or if you've found another 'disgraceful' example of someone overlooking ocPortal in a batch review/recommendation, then please post in this topic.

Let's get this party started. Here's your first opportunity to help grow the community!

Last month .net magazine did a nice run up about the top software, but they unfortunately didn't cover us.

It's actually a nice article, but I'm sure you'll agree ocPortal should have been in it.

Something different this time around, a forum topic discussing pro's & con's of different systems. We've got all the usual suspects discussed, but I don't think anybody there has tried ocPortal.

Alright, here's another one:

http://forums.webhostautomation.com/forumdisplay.php?f=48

It's the forum for a hosting control panel called Parallels Helm where people submit requests for "application packs" - an easy way for website owners to deploy new software (like ocPortal).

You'll notice there are already requests for Joomla and Wordpress - if you think ocPortal deserves a spot, let your voice be heard!

Keep up the good work everyone!

Thanks to those who acted on the post yesterday (now deleted at the request of the author of the blog post I linked to).

It turns out I wasn't very diplomatic with my wording here and offended the blog author. I said the readers needed better educating, and that the post implied there were only 2 choices – which I meant in terms of they should get a chance to be exposed to our message in addition to the authors article and that some readers might assume that because the article only talks about 2 CMSs that there are only 2 worth choosing. Unfortunately my post could be misinterpreted as me saying the article was doing a poor job of educating which wasn't my intent. The subtle difference in meaning is that I intended to imply the readers would benefit from additional study and that the article could be considered an introduction that we could build on, but I think that got lost in my poor choice of language.

So, I offer my apologies to the article author and next time I will make it more clear that this isn't about arguing with authors, it's just about adding our own voice and contributing to the discussion on the site we link to.

Nevertheless I didn't mean to say (and didn't say) that the author was uneducated, I didn't spam or encourage spamming of his blog (we make it quite clear in that nobody should spam), and whilst my judgment might of not been 100% (poor wording), it is still very important that we keep getting the word out there at every opportunity we can!
