I've just upgraded ocPortal.com to ocPortal 8. This is one of the last things we usually do before making a release, to iron out any bugs found in a large scale live ocPortal install.

You might notice a few odd things while it settles in. Particularly some very old comment topics are being recreated, as we removed an old naming scheme from quite a few years ago. So please check the date before replying to any of those.

You'll notice some of the new ocPortal features on the forum, such as improved spacer posts, notifications, and threaded commenting (turned on for the website comments forum - not quite working yet).

I noticed some new members have received multiple welcome emails since updating, I am currently debugging this.

Possible bug:

a) Clicked on Topics with unread post

b) Selected a range of old system posts that (i.e. ticked check box to right of message)

c) Selected Mark as read from Topic/poll actions:

Result: Doesn't refresh the list of unread topics, but looks like it is displaying the forum root.

Here's my 3 item list:

  • Feature development tracker - ocPortal
    • Internal Server Error
  • this post
    • previewing post after attaching an image
      • would not preview, it scrolled down but never a preview
      • would not upload the image during preview
      • "New post" button disabled (had to start second post)

This may or may not be from v8 upgrade:

I'm unable to upload picture attachments. The upload seems to go ok until it returns to the form and then just freezes, or I get the 'hand' cursor and anywhere I click on the form/page I get the OS download dialogue box.

I don't know if this is v8 specific, but I've never had this type of problem attaching images before you upgraded.

Just found another. Clicking the "add box" button in full editor mode caused my post to be submitted.

Add the "list", "quote", "code", and "html" buttons to this list.

One more…

Clicking on "whisper" from my post, then selecting "private topic" throws an error. I shouldn't be able to whisper to myself should I?

Made a quick reply with a quote here this morning. WHen submitted, gave me a "Server Error" type warning. I had to "resend info" ie try again for the page to load. Luckily though, the post did go through.

Over all though, looking good! And at first I didn't notice this but this is a welcome change = Quick Reply button changed to Make Post. Much better IMO!

One other thing, the Like function works fine (even though slozy is in the () and I am right outside it, not that it maters, but looks odd), but what about thee stars? Are they based on topic being liked? I was clicking on them hoping to see something happen but nooooo.

Noticable lag on loading full editior (saw when editing this post), but might be from first load.

I like the fact that the site comcode things are part of the editor now… but sort of miss the large easy-to-distinguish buttons, if you know what I mean.

A second edit: Shouldn't the "edited by mythus at such and such time/date" thingy appear on the bottom of an edited post? Maybe it takes me leaving a reason now? Seems odd to me.

Similar problem I just had, clicking the upload for attachment does nothing at all, probably just me being a moron though!

Oh my! ocPortal 8 is infected with typo demons!!!!!

LOL sorry about that Sholzy, I'm real good at doing that. And I guess either you are just awesome or just first. Whatever the case, it looks odd to me.

Ok, I want to test the attachment issue, just to see if this is wide spread. If this post doesn't go through, or has no attachment… then BUG!

BUG!: I got past the adding attachment, which was difficult since the "choose file/upload" button was replaced with a large light blue box. In fact, the attachment was a screenshot of this issue. However, past that, I could not hit the "New Post", "Preview" or anything else in the site screen. Instead, I had to refresh the page.

Are they based on topic being liked? I was clicking on them hoping to see something happen but nooooo.

Likes are built on top of ratings. A like is a 5 star rating, a dislike is a 1 star rating. But it also says who did the liking (which may be buggy looking at the above).

A second edit: Shouldn't the "edited by mythus at such and such time/date" thingy appear on the bottom of an edited post? Maybe it takes me leaving a reason now? Seems odd to me.

This hasn't changed, it only defaults the 'show as edited' option as on if it's been a while since the post was made.

Lots of reports above, will all be checked out.
