Hi,

Version 8 is not yet released, this topic is preemptive.

Some of you have noticed that a lot of our old comment topics on ocPortal.com have been recreated since we have been testing version 8 on here.

This is due to a change in ocPortal 8 where we've dropped support for the primitive comment topic identification system used in ocPortal 3 and below. This is the system whereby comment topics were identified by their topic titles (e.g. containing "news_3"). Since version 3 we've used actual content titles for the topic titles and buried the identifier in the topic description, simply to make things more attractive. In version 8 that description isn't even visible on OCF.

So in short, we've dropped an old system that was complicating the code, as part of version 8's comment topic upgrades.

If you're one of the few people who have had an ocPortal site continuously upgraded from version 3 or below, below is a file that will rename old comment topics. Just upload over the default data_custom/execute_temp.php and call up by URL.

v8 really feels like an inflection point release - not only providing many new features and benefits but also creating the foundation for moving forward in a a better and easier manner.

From just what I have seen and used of v8 on here, I keep wondering what new things Chris will have cooked up by v10.  :)

I don't impress easily, but Chris (and his team) has done a very good job of amazing me quite often.

Chris is a force of nature, it seems. He doesn't talk too loudly or boldly, but his code speaks at thunderous volumes.

I can honestly say that I have not seen this kind of dedication to the product from paid solutions such as vBulletin & XenForo or IPB, Chris is truly a godsend, and we are so very fotunate he has such a good heart. :)

I actually agree with all your comments, and have been saying so since 2006, but I have an Aussie mate in Melbourne who would call these remarks "… painting his fence!"
