There was significant down time for ocPortal.com today. Sorry if this caused anyone inconvenience.

We'll be ascertaining what happened soon, and this problem should not be reoccurring.

I experienced a problem with a 9.0.1 installation during the down time that hasn't been encountered in previous versions. I've posted it under 'Deploying'.

 :o

Take my advice. I'm not using it!

Anything to do with the Go Daddy DDoS attack?

I was wondering about an attack as well. ocPortal was not the only site I could not reach.

Looks like it wasn't a hack.  Well, according to GoDaddy at least:

Day-long outage 'not a hack,' claims GoDaddy • The Register

But then again they would say that.

My own server was last week one day offline with the same dns problem. There was a script who has over flooded my servers memory, and he was crashed. Only by hand reset could give him again some live.  But there is also some positive on it, this server was already 6 years old, and i will get now a new one…  wowow… :)

I have had run in's with go-daddy in the past, as they do not enforce the user agreements they make their customers agree to.   Which sort of let's the go-daddy users run free with no recourse through go-daddy.    Pretty horrible business model.   So if they go down forever it wouldn't hurt my feelings.   I expect more integrity from businesses.

I always setup a fail-over dns. I have 4 nameservers, two in one subset and two in another that point to my sites, and even then I have had some downtime.

The server was entirely offline, and it took quite some time for it to be got back up – I'm not sure why it took so long yet. There is no data loss.

We don't have any direct associations with GoDaddy. It might have been related if some infrastructure down the line had a tie in, or if web host/data centre support were pushed behind fire-fighting the GoDaddy problems from the day before.

If the server was down, you can have as many namersers as are allowed (I think the max is 7) no amount of fail-over/round robin is going to help.  ;)

My site operated that day very slowly when I was logged in as admin; however, when logged in as test, I noticed no problems. Was that because the admin zone was trying to connect to your server, Chris?

It might slow the front page of the Admin Zone by a few seconds, however other pages shouldn't be affected.
