Many of you have noticed how the ocProducts server has been performing very badly over the last 2 weeks. This was a result of mySQL corruption, and also a loose power cable. Regrettably, these problems occurred at the worst possible time: starting when I was moving home (no Internet), and culminating when the whole team was away (none of us having stable Internet connections to be able to diagnose the problem).

I want everyone to know that these problems are extraordinary, and should now be permanently fixed.

On a different note, the ocProducts team * has just met for a combined holiday/planning meeting. We've come up with a long list of improvements we intend to make, and these will be added to the long list we were already planning/developing for version 4. In due time, a big announcement about version 4 will be coming (v4 itself is still a long way from being ready, but we'll be announcing something very significant).
Things are looking very positive at the moment - although we're not quite ready to start announcing stuff.

* Apart from one of the team, who unfortunately couldn't make it this time around.

Was I helpful?
  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Very glad to hear that Chris! I'd gotten 90% of the way to committing to OCPortal for my project when the downtime began, so it's been a large concern to me. Now that everything's tidied up, I can get the answers that I need to move that last 10% of the way.
(By the way, the arrangement I mentioned in my support ticket is still available. I believe strongly in ensuring the stability of a commitment, especially when the fate of one of my projects rests on it :)
Thank you for the announcement!

2 weeks have I really been gone from this site that long?
I only noticed that it was down for the last 3 days counting today. well 2.5 days then. O_o:o

I run http://otakuplayground.com and am hopping to make themes and other things for ocportal even though I no longer use it for otakuplayground.com I still love it and feel it could go far with the right help. It needs themes and needs people to advertise for it.

Chris and I live in the United Kingdom, and Allen lives in the United States of America. The two of us went over to meet up with Allen.

Philip did manage to make it to the meetings, though…

cool so all 4 staff made it.
so are you all in the USA where I live?
The English over here is a bit different then over there as I have talked to people from the UK and they do not use the same words for the same things.

I know, we had several excellent discussions on this and other cultural differences.

We are all back in our respective countries now - the trip is over (for this year)!
