From the depths of my imagination brought to life by ocPortal

Greetings,

I have just now noticed I had never posted a link to my site here. Odd. I thought I did ages ago…

Anyways, I proudly present to you my on-going, constantly developing, never finished (and hopefully never to be finished), world. I must warn you, it is as turbulent, as ever evolving, as my own mind…. What that means is I am always finding a new and better way to do things lol. What can I say, ocPortal never ceases to bore me.

Legends of NorOva

UPDATE: Febuary 14, 2011
I have finally reopened the Legends of Nor'Ova website to the general public, however work is still being done to make it a usable site for role playing and dealing with the book.

You see, we had elected to make a change to the forum based RP as well as make a space for dealing with the Legends of Nor'Ova Core Rule Book (for the table top RPG) which I completed in November of 2010.  We had begun work back in Novemeber, but  a server hack at my old host over christmas left us ofline for and nonexistant for a month. I switched to a new host and decided to rebuid from scratch instead of dealing with upgrading and importing my out of date by a month backup and redoing all the work I had to do on it anyways.

Anyways its back up now with all the backend stuff basically done. I am still working on the front end stuff (info pages, character profile forms, the store, etc) but it is open for visitors.

UPDATE: March 01, 2014
Wow, that many years since I updated this post?

Anyway, I had moved away from ocPortal for a while, primarily due to spam bots. I decided to test it again though because I still love ocPortal and nothing I've used comes close to it IMO.

Anyway, I have my site up and running on ocPortal again! Yay! And a nice new theme I made for it! And so far, no successful spam attacks!

The RP forum itself has been restarted with the aim at a more simple RP for everyone with optional advance lore and such for those into that. I'm still in the process (as of this post) of putting things back into the CEDI (you call it a Wiki+ but I like CEDI so :P ). Coming from forum back to something powerful and flexible like ocPortal gives plently of opportunity to do things right and have nice, clean navigation once again! I am excited!

Chris, you are awesome, but please don't break my site with v10 when it comes out. Still need to figure out why I have a hard time putting images in signatures - don't ever remember trouble there... And still have my few unanswered posts in developing. But it's going good.

Greetings,

It's not what you think lol. It is simply that the particular address, norova.net, doesn't work anymore.

You see, when I was… less web and host savvy, several years ago, I purchased it as part of a hosting package from what I thought would be a reputable and decent web hosting company. This was of course before I had even discovered this little piece of heaven called ocPortal.

Well over time I watched them become blatant oversellers, offering the everything in the sky deal with unlimited disc space and bandwidth for $4 a month (when I signed on it wasn't unlimited, but still I should have known better). Over time with them I also experienced many headaches, with down time, bottle-necking, and being moved from server to server quite frequently. I wanted to move to a different host altogether, but quickly found out that I wouldn't be able to take the domain name with me.

So in November, the first thing I did was something I should have done a long time ago, I purchased a domain name only from godaddy, one that I could take and use no matter where I hosted with, legendsofnorova.com

Someone who I worked with before really wanted me to try out their hosting service that they were running, so with this new domain name I did. Through November and December, it went great. Then, in the middle of December, I went on an internet free holiday, spending the next two weeks with my kids and family completely (even though it was here at home). When I got back online in January, I discovered a nightmare. His servers had been hacked into and wiped out! I of course gave myself a swift kick in the butt, because I had neglected to take a full backup of the site before I went offline, the last backup being at the end of October… but that's besides the point lol.

Well I gave him time, more time than I should have, to get things back in order, with him keep promising that it would all be back up in a week… After a month of hearing that, I looked elsewhere, and have settled on opensourcehosting, using their 1 year free promotion to test them out. Luckily I have my own domain name now so my members don't have to learn a new one, but I gotta rebuild after the loss.

You see, I introduced a lot of changes to the site in November and was still working on more, dealing with things like selling my now completed tabletop core rule book in pdf form, and a complete retooling of the forum based RPG to address issues that have been plaguing it. Instead of uploading my last backup from October, and having to make all those changes (different zones, different virtual roots and redirects, different menu's, etc), I decided to upload the latest 6.1beta, and build it up from scratch, using member cvs records to import the member database, and my classic legends theme for the theme. This way I don't have to remove and re-setup, I can just setup, which I hope will be a much more clean experience, and be a little faster to do.

So yeah, norova.net is closed, I contacted them and said "don't renew me". legendsofnorova.com is the new and permanent address, but right now it will give you the maintence screen lol.

Hi,

Looking good but not something for me as I don't do game thingy's online.
One remark if I may say: The brown color is so dark that I can't read the messages written in black on it. Maybe some reversing to white or other light color? It could also be my old eyes.

Greetings Puran

(Keep up the good work!)

21-7-1955 - 24-10-2011 I hope she rest in peace and I hope to see you soon.  Puran

Greetings,

Yeah I agree with the dark color. I am thinking that in an earlier version of ocPortal I did have it white. but something got changed in the more recent version that caused other fonts (in the read more news page for example) to turn white as well. Being that it was on a white/light color box that made it impossible to read.

I haven't had the chance to search for the  culpurit or a fix for that yet, been busy working on info pages for the Saga of Ablution zone (the online forum game).

No worries that you are not into those kinds of things. Not everyone is lol! I do appreciate you taking a look though!
