can not subscribe for a newsletter or upload CSV

Hi, could you please help me?

on my website can not subscribe (as a "guest") for a newsletter, do not receive an email for subscription, list of subscribers is empty...

can not upload CSV file when "Send out issue", get error:

An error has occurred

PHP WARNING [2] Wrong parameter count for fgetcsv() (version: 4.1.6, PHP version: 4.4.9, URL: /adminzone/index.php?page=admin_newsletter&type=confirm&old_type=new)

Here is the stack trace:

Below is a stack trace revealing the state the software was in when the error occurred. If this represents a bug in the unmodified software, you may want to check ocPortal website for a fix, and if there isn't one, report this as a bug. Please note that merely posting a stack trace is not sufficient for us to solve your problem; the stack trace is just an aid that presents us with additional information. We still need to know the error message, what you tried to do, how you tried to do it, version numbers, and any other appropriate information.
We apologise for this problem and if it's a bug we hope you will work with us so that we can fix it for you promptly.

Hi,

on my website can not subscribe (as a "guest") for a newsletter

What happens when you try to do this?

The error is a PHP version incompatibility, and likely our fault – I'll look into it.

  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Bug fix is to change line 464 of adminzone/pages/modules/admin_newsletter.php from:

Code

            while (($csv_line=fgetcsv($myfile))!==false)
to:

Code

            while (($csv_line=fgetcsv($myfile,4096))!==false)

Thank you :)

Hi,

So you're sending a newsletter to a selection that says there are some readers, but none of those readers get it?

The newsletter has to be 'clever' and sends e-mails after the newsletter screen finishes displaying to the web browser (so the browser window can be closed and the mails continue to send). I am wondering whether this is failing somehow - the problem is you can't see these kinds of errors because they happen behind-the-scenes.

Could you try a change for me?
Change line 197 of sources/newsletter.php from:

Code

register_shutdown_function('newsletter_shutdown_function');
to:

Code

newsletter_shutdown_function();

And see if that works, or at least gives an error message.

Fan in training

We've fixed the proglem. Turned out php mail function is not supported by the host, therefore smtp must be used instead. Everything works now ;)
Thank you for the information.

By the way, ocPortal rules! I've learned some tempcode editing these days, it's amaizing how much you can do right from the browser. :thumbs:
