Hello.

I'm trying to set up MSN on my sites. I'm using 4.2 RC2.

I installed OCPortal on the new domain in the root of that domain, on the same server the other site is on.

I set the netlink url for the new site to link to the first site.

That changed nothing.

I went in the config editor, and matched the forum db info to the new site to the old site. This caused the new site not to work. I changed it back to use it's own database, and it was fine again.

so that's where I'm at with it. It's apparent that the localhost designation in the db_site_host field, is not getting the user information from one url set up on the server to another, the way it did before I switched to Elief. So if you can point me in the right direction for configuring things so I can use the multi site network set up…I'd appreciate it!

This caused the new site not to work

The error message you saw would help us. I'm guessing it's an ocPortal critical error saying that permission was denied to login to the database you specified.

Did you change the SQL user as well as the hostname?

I changed:

db_forums
db_forums_user
db_forums_password
board_prefix

to match the original site.

that gives me:

Critical error - bailing out

Could not connect to database-server ()

Details here are intended only for the website/system-administrator, not for regular website users.
If you are a regular website user, please let the website staff deal with this problem.

Depending on the error, and only if the website installation finished, you may need to edit the installation options (the info.php file).

ocProducts maintains full documentation for all procedures and tools. These may be found on the ocPortal website. If you are unable to easily solve this problem, we may be contacted from our website and can help resolve it for you.

I didn't change:

db_forums_host

as that's localhost, and I don't know what I COULD change it to…

Could you try the attached file to see if it gives a better error message. This one is not very good, but hopefully the attached will coerce PHP into giving it out in detail.

that adds this to the error message:

Code

Could not connect to database-server (, mysql_connect() [<a href='http://www.php.net/manual/en/function.mysql-connect.php'>function.mysql-connect.php</a>]: Access denied for user 'aipman1_Dragon'@'localhost' (using password: YES))

I wonder if this has anything to do with whatever Elief changed on their servers the other day that caused that problem with the URLs/advanced settings?

I'd question whether your two sites are on the same server. If they have the same IP address they probably are, otherwise probably not.

If not, it is probably the way Elief have their MySQL security set up.

Either way, I think it's something Elief can best answer :).

they are definitely the same IP address.

As you know the problem, and have a relationship with Elief, and their servers are supposed to be ideal for ocportal, etc, can you ask them what the configuration to use M.S.N. features that work on other hosts, on thiers?

I mean, it might have more oomph and be worded in a better way if you ask, as a guy who knows software and configurations, than joe web account who doesn't.

Hi,

The Elief boss, Richard Rowan, found out why. It's because in the info.php you copy&pasted the forum access details from, you actually have the password wrong in there.
ocPortal will be smart and not open two connections to the same database, which means the fact the password is wrong is never detected on the main site.
If you look at the main site's info.php you will see the inconsistency.

Yep, Chris and team really seem to run a tight ship over here - I've been thoroughly impressed with the support they offer compared to other application developers :).
