We know a lot of you would benefit from some advanced ocProducts support on occasion, but that it's hard to find/justify the money if your website is not part of a successful business. The community helps, but sometimes only a programmer has the answer.

Of course after making a great product for free the last thing ocProducts can afford is free individual tuition too.

So we've decided that we will trial a referral scheme. If you refer commercial work to us, you'll be given 5% of the value back in support credits to spend with us as you wish.

This is a great way for us to be able to help you out further, and to help you help us.

We're in constant need of projects to pay the bills and to continue innovating. Sometimes it seems like we're "programming Gods", and sometimes businesses can seem inhuman or money-grabbing, but actually we're people who work very hard and make big long-term personal commitments, with big bills to pay. And unlike other lame web design companies we have to compete with on a daily basis, we're always aiming for the stars and taking our community with us.

We really need your support in our mission, but thankfully this time we can help you back in the process!

You can find all about our business offerings from the ocProducts part of this site. You probably know at least one organisation, upstart, trader, or some other contact, who needs a site doing – all you need to do is identify this, and sell them on our services, and send us the details of the referral.

So, time to get started :)? If you strike it big and are able to refer a fairly large development project at £5,328, you'll earn one full days free support. That could be a lot of questions answered, or a simple new addon developed.

The smallprint:
  • It must be a true referral. The entity being referred must not have been considering ocPortal previously. The entity could be your employer, but it can't be your own business.
  • The order must be over £1000 GBP (about $1600 USD).
  • The exact earning calculation is: 1 support credit for each £111 GBP spent with us, rounded down to the nearest support credit.
  • Only work in the initial order will be considered.
  • The project must actually start (i.e. deposit paid or support credits purchased). We reserve the right to reduce awarded credits if the project is cancelled for some reason, as we won't have made the money to pass on.
  • We reserve the right to change these rules at any time, it's not a binding agreement.

We suggest that you are open with whoever you are referring, if they realise you'll get a referral but think you are hiding this, it is likely to reflect poorly on you. Also, of course don't refer work you don't think we could do – e.g. print design work, PR strategy, IT network support. Things like mobile apps are fine.

I neglected to mention that there's something inherently good about referring work – for most projects we do, at least one new feature makes it back into ocPortal. A lot of what ocPortal now is came from commercial projects originally.

Pity the South African Rand is 11 or 12 to 1 against the British Pound - will keep this in mind though.

Yes, our current state of globalisation is creating havoc in the global economy. Certain countries are advancing rapidly but there are a lot of currency imbalances and fluxes that make global trade very hard (far higher costs for people living in the 'West', inflation and social and cultural upheaval for people living in the 'East'/Africa). I reckon it will be very rocky until the world evens out after all the shaking it's received recently.

Anyway…

With ocPortal, it's important to me it's not about ocProducts. We are like a 'primary sponsor', but there is a partner directory (for partners of ocPortal really) and freedom for trade in the community. So other companies that might provide more localised/specialised services can certainly come along and make similar kinds of offers if they want to. I'm not concerned about competition because I'm confident our investments and expertise will be recognised, and also that there is room here for many others if we work together.

First you begin by helping yourself....take some time to read what the topic is about that you posted in, not just the title of it.

Then go over to the tutorials which can be found in the support link at the top of the page. There you will find most everything you could ever want to know clearly spelled out step by step. You will also find those tutorials linked all over your admin zone and linked directly to the tutorial for what you are trying to do.

If after doing the above you are still having troubles then come back. Start your own topic and you will likely find many happy, friendly people eager to welcome you in and help you out.

I can't find the topic starter where I can report a bug in the system (old) system and maybe find out if anyone else has had the same problem......I might as well just put the problem here too as I'm already doing this comment.

I enabled the hits reports on my catalogue so members would get a report saying how many vistors had viewed it....

I've turned that option off in the catalogue.....that didn't stop it!
I deleted all the members entrys....................that didn't stop it!
I've deleted that catalogue.............................that still hasn't stopped it!!

I'm getting p'd off with them coming through now let alone my members of my site.....how the h*ll do I stop them?

I wonder if that is coming from some other test site you might have up, or another catalogue. If a catalogue is deleted it definitely can't be sending reports anymore. Another possibility is if the reports were delayed in transit somehow, so are just coming through now relate.

Regardless, if you delete the sources/hooks/systems/cron/catalogue_view_reports.php file that will remove the code that sends them.

Hi Chris

Thanx loads for your response. Its definitely coming from my main website. I just realised I hadn't killed off the catalogue I thought I'd killed off but like I say it was def empty and I'd def ticked the box to stop the reports.. And that's what I thought...that the reports may have already been initiated before I killed everything so I had already waited.

So I have def killed off that catalogue and if it still keeps doing it I will kill the file you say that sends the reports.

As long as I can stop it one way or another as I want to gain members not loose them-LOL

thanx again
