Well-settled

...but better late than never as they say!

Well, I'm SAC! It's obviously not my real name, but a signature I've been using online for several years now, known world wide for particular reasons! I'm from Sweden where IT is controlling our daily lifes more and more as we speak… heck, we don't even have post offices in this country anymore… we're expected to do most things using the Internet!

Anyways, in the late 90's I got rid of my Amiga 500 and purchased a PC, my very first one, and intended to enjoy all the PC-games that were out there. And so I did, but I often found myself enjoying them for like 30 minutes or so, til I realized I didn't enjoy the original graphics too much! So, for personal use, I started to redraw everything and put all files on my homepage accounts that followed my ISP, as a security backup, and some months later I recieved a phone call!

My ISP wanted to know whether or not I had put pornography on my accounts as other customers had experienced issues with their own tiny little home pages, (you know the ones putting up an image of their cats, dogs and whatnot along with a counter). Well, anyways, other customers counters had started to flip out, and my ISP had broken down the problems down to my accounts. I was surprised they didn't check out my accounts themselves as being the provider in the first place, but they wanted to keep their customers privacy intact! Isn't that nice?

Well, it turned out that someone had found my back-up files, apparently worth mentioning both here and there, and by time I had like 1.1 million visitors/month! In 2003 I recieved an e-mail from EA Games inviting me to their offices in San Fransisco, everything paid for incl. flights, hotels - for an entire week - as a nice gesture since I had allowed other people to download and use my custom graphics! Of course I believed this to be a joke, so I had to phone them… but it was all true! Imagine this for someone like myself, simply improving my purchased games to better fit my own preferences! And the same thing in 2004! Well, these were proud moments to say the least! I got to meet Will Wright on both occassions, and I had the opportunity to test play games that weren't even released yet, so…

Well, what started out with games like SimCity soon were extended further to games like The Sim's, Tropico-Paradise Island, Civilization II, Transport Tycoon DLX! As can tell I'm a fan of 2.5D games! While I do enjoy also 3D-game engines, I kind of have a thing for especially these 2.5D games! If nothing else most of them are easier to customize in terms of graphics, as I haven't gotten around to learn making 3D-models yet! However, if anyone out there can provide me with a patch or a mod that sort of extend normal 24-hour day cycles to, lets say, 48 hours, I'd highly appreciate that! :P

Anyways, at the moment I'm redrawing the entire Transport Tycoon DLX by Chris Sawyer, something that is widely expected to be released by fans world wide. But, I've been holding on to most of my graphics these last couple of years as I haven't had a descent website, and since I'm not a coder… well… go figure…

All in all I'm sitting on thousands of graphics files for the above mentioned games, and I sincerely hope this ocPortal thing will do the trick for me! While I have offered my files for free earlier, I realize that hosting, server space, storage and the sort, doesn't come for free, I intend to offer subscriptions for access to downloads - but keep the rest of my site, incl forums, for free! Time will tell - not to mention my ability to construct something like this, completely lost as I am when it comes to websites! :P

At the moment I'm devoting almost all my time to this website and ocPortal! There's a reason to this as I need to occupy my time. A month ago my wife, we got married a month earlier, died from cancer, and my own life sort of died with her! So, I obviously need to find a new life, but in the meantime, simply to keep thoughts away from this thwilight zone I'm in right now, focusing on a website is at least one way to go right now!

I'm hoping to enjoy this site! Thank you all! :)

Oh, and why is this for free? :$

I'm a big Sims 2 (and 3) fan.

Just be careful offering EA Game stuff you made for download with subscriptions. There's bad apples out there who will purchase a subscription and then offer those downloads for free on their site. They'll still give you the credit but EA Licence Agreement prohibits of offering stuff you make for their games for money. And these folks make sure you're stuff is offered for free.

Looking forward to see your site. You're  off to a great start.

Thanks Eric! :P

I haven't actually gotten around to play TS2 or TS3, mostly because of lack of time… and it's not as I don't have anything else to attend to! However, I did find TS1 to be sort of cool, but rather than playing the game, I basically created neighborhoods with stuff like "Red Light Districts", Projects, Shopping Malls, Airports, well you name it! Will have all of those put up on SimuScape as soon as time permits!

And I'm aware there are bad apples out there, but I'm not going for some profitable goals - other than ensuring I at least can cover my own expenses!

Nice to meet you and welcome to ocportal. :)

I run http://otakuplayground.com and am hopping to make themes and other things for ocportal even though I no longer use it for otakuplayground.com I still love it and feel it could go far with the right help. It needs themes and needs people to advertise for it.
