here's my introduction

Greetings everyone.

I'm not really "new" to ocPortal. I have been fiddling around with it for some time now and have installed it for many friends.

I'm in my mid-thirties and my favorite hobby recently has been The Sims. So much as I have created a site for it. There have been and still are way too many sites just dedicated to those female sims and the poor guys are left out in the cold. You'll find downloads here and there but not as many as those females. :(

I've had my site run on PHP-Nuke and that was a bust. Too many bugs in that thing my site crashed almost everyday. Then I tried PHP-Fusion. It was nice but limited. That is what my last CMS I used was. Then I saw somewhere about ocPortal and gave it a test run and was amazed. :o

Just recently I decided to put my Sims site through ocPortal. I opened a new domain and put it together. Not all the downloads are there but the features I want are. I use the default theme with just image changes. Would love some feedback with suggestion ideas…the good, bad, and ugly. Just be nice!

My site is http://malesims.com - I use the M.S.N. option which I wish Fusion would have had. You can access the three subdomains and it looks like it's all one database. It's actually four but one member/forum database. Member database is real small right now 'til my partner in crime emails them to come over to the new site. You're more than welcome to register and poke around if you want.

Thank you Chris and the rest of the team for this great CMS!

Yes, it came out already (http://sims3.malesims.com).

It's okay for a start I guess. Not much custom content you can do except recolors for clothing, but members of the sims community have started meshing and creating programs. The only drawback is that it stops the updates that the official site has. You have to revert back to the core, do the updates, then readd the mods.

Hey edemars,

Looks good so far, I have never done the sub domain thing, looks like it is working pretty good. My only suggestion would be to link those 3 great looking graphics on the front page of your site to the appropriate sub domain. Keep up the good work.

Hello Edemars, nice to meet you and your new site!

I've never had the chance to play with the Sims, as I'm deeply involved with Battlefields, ArmA and the likes, but I've always like the idea of controlling these bots and see how the AI has evolved with the new Core2 and Quad Core CPUs in Sims3. I have two ladies in my classes that are pure fanatics of Sims and I might give them your coordinates to stir things up with the members (just a joke). But seriously, as they are also studying about ocPortal websites, your work might be inspiring to them. However, for now they choose an entirely different project, more related to their work.

I'll keep visiting and probably get hooked also.

Best of luck

Hey there Edemars, your site is nice, the custom graphics really do give it a unique feel.

I second the suggestion to link the 3 graphics to the subdomains. I instinctively clicked on them to no avail   :$

I used to play the sims, till er uhm the "boss" but the kibosh on that.

Can I get an admin (Chris or Allen perhaps) to change my handle name to "Eric" for me? Or is that not allowed?  ;)

I encourage those who have not registered there yet to maybe do so. Now that I am helping out more over there, things are going to kick off faster!

Thought I'd mention I plugged ocPortal on my site as "Powered By…". Even tho it is open source, ocPortal deserves the credit where credit is due.

Nice!

Kinda buried way down in there…  I was expecting something in the footer.

It's all good though, I'm not hating.

Not really buried. Buried info is hard to access. I don't like "Powered By" stuff in the footer. When I used PHP-Nuke and PHP-Fusion, I always removed it and added it elsewhere appropriately. In reality, the site is powered by ME!

You can, but it's best you ask in the forums here. And Sims International Male is just the basics of ocPortal. I didn't really add any new programming to it.
