introduction and some questions

Hello everyone,

Although i was registered for couple of weeks, this is my first post. It is a good feeling to find a software like ocPortal. It has all the features i was looking and in fact it is a part of my comparison list that consists of ocPortal, TikiWiki, WebGUI.

I want to get good hands on, before i decide the platform to be used for one my network sites up for launch. Though ocPortal has good writeup about the features, i had some below questions,

1. As there drastic increase in mobile browsing, does ocPortal render properly in mobile devices?
2. I was not able to find any sites, leveraging the capabilites of ocPortal and showcase its capabilities (for e.g. CEDI, Forums, Catalouge) in a live site, please point to sites if there were any other than ocPortal itself?
3. I felt that the product also lacks community submitted templates (i feel that templates are not just marketing materials rather they project the many ways a software like this could be used. Is updating/porting templates to different versions ocPortal difficult?

Thank You

Can't help with 2 or 3 but as to question 1 I just tried my system on my Palm Pre and it renders great. The only problem that I have is anywhere there is flash, that is not the site's fault most mobile devices don't support flash. Mine is supposed to get flash soon, can't wait.

Well g4geek, I have to say Rick is ahead of me as he had an answer for 1 out of your 3 questions and I don't have any answers. Nevertheless I want to say welcome to ocPortal and the community here. You are at a good place here and someone will have the other 2 answers for you.

All the best with your next project.

If you do keyword searches, you'll find that the question about LIVE sites have been asked several places for examples.

Be sure to also check out the sub-forum in this Introduce Yourself forum. Folks have been posting their sites with lots of good usage examples.

Actually I almost forgot, I can help with #2 as well. When you said live site I forgot about one of mine as it is not really live. I got a lot of help from Chris as well as some that I paid for. It is a site for a Not For Profit cat sanctuary and for reasons beyond my control has not gone live yet. But if you want to see what can be done with Catalogs check it out at http://72.29.65.116/~sundance/

If you go to the Adoption link then the Cat's and Kittens link you will see what can be done with the Catalogs.

g4geek,

Sorry I forgot that I had the site in maintenance mode. Unfortunately I just tried to take it out of Maintenance mode and got an error. Now I need to fix the error just to make it viewable by the public. As soon as i get it fixed I will reply back here to let you know.

OK it is up at the moment, although I am having some server problems so things don't seem very stable at the moment. Sorry for any inconvenience.

I don't want to appear picky, but isn't it supposed to spell "furry" friends? Nice theme colour btw, I like the copper tone!

Have an nice one,
Peter

Lowlander,

If you knew me very well you would know that one of my bestest friends was some one named Spell Check. Since it looks like the site may never go live now I have not taken the time to clean everything up. Thanks for all the comments.

Thanks for the link to allow us to peek into a work in progress and it will be a shame if a site with such good intentions and goals never makes it live on the net - Good work Rick.

Thanks for your kind words friendly. I do hope that one day it will go live but unfortunately after a lot of work and a fair amount of money it seems the owner is afraid of change.
