Moving forward with Composr

ocPortal has been relaunched as Composr CMS, which is now in beta. ocPortal 9 will be superseded by Composr 10.

Well-settled

Hello all!

My name's Pete and for the past five or six years I've been tinkering with websites.

After making personal interest sites covering a computer games series, I went ahead and expanded the site to cover many more games and use ocPortal to run that site: StrategyCore.co.uk - Core Games for Strategy Gamers

So, after fiddling about with websites in my spare time, I've now taken to setting up my own business and hopefully if it takes off I'll make lots of moolah doing something I enjoy!

Hope to be upgrading my site to the latest version of OCP soon, but with the amount of skinning I've done on 2.6 I'll need a few hours spare ;)

Pete, I have simply deen dieing….errr, dying…. well, you get the idea, not the one with the colors, the one about really wanting to….  O_o

Anyway, I have REALLY wanted to ask you about your ocPortal site.  I'd have to say, without hesitation, that yours is the best and most sophisticated ocPortal site that I am yet aware of, and I'd love to know more about how you did it.

Also, are your other sites also OCP?  I couldn't tell with a quick look, but I didn't think so.

Regardless, nice work!!!

Wow I am amazed. I would love to link to your site from my ocportal fan site just to show people what can be done with this system.

I like working on webpages too and I do some ipb support and install mods for customers.
I hope to do the same with ocPortal some day.

Any way can I link to your site to show the potential clients for ocp what ocp can do.

I run http://otakuplayground.com and am hopping to make themes and other things for ocportal even though I no longer use it for otakuplayground.com I still love it and feel it could go far with the right help. It needs themes and needs people to advertise for it.

@ PoliticalVoice - There's a LOT of template editing to be done to get it that far, but mostly that's all it is.

The "latest files" is a custom block I made as I use an external file download script (since before I installed ocPortal so I had little choice).

The fan fiction pages in the X-COM section are another custom block, though not coded extremely well, to grab posts from a topic and treat them as pages, putting page links across the bottom to view the next "page".

The random "featured game" bit on the homepage uses some randomisation code that's in ocPortal by default.

The rest of it really is a case of editing templates and CSS entries to suit your needs :)

My other sites aren't made with ocPortal. TheLastOutpost uses a custom-built CMS which I planned out on paper in two weeks and then spent four months building on and off. It's quite rickety, but sometimes there's nothing like building your own CMS to do one specific job ;)

To be honest it could quite easily run on ocPortal though, but I wanted to test out my PHP knowledge and see what I could do on my own.

Notanotherdotcom - my business site - is simply a Dreamweaver template I put together really and created the various pages from it. I figures I didn't need to go over the top for a bunch of static pages, but that may change in future.

@ amichan - Sure thing.

It's still running 2.6.x though ;)
