Moving forward with Composr

ocPortal has been relaunched as Composr CMS, which is now in beta. ocPortal 9 will be superseded by Composr 10.

Head over to compo.sr for our new site, and to our migration roadmap. Existing ocPortal member accounts have been mirrored.

Just wanted to say hi to everyone and introduce myself as one of the new kids in town.

I've had ocPortal up and running for about a month and a half now, and I have to say it is totally awesome and powerful!  I love it!  What a great system!

I've been involved with developing and maintaining websites for a few years (since 1998), but I'm still no pro at it -- more of a hack than anything at times.  Over the years I've programmed in COBOL, FORTRAN, and some of the other older languages in a business setting, but that's ancient history now.  I can hold my own on css and html, and can read and understand php, but never really done any actual php coding on my own to develop/change anything except a line here or there.  I have a basic understanding of MySQL -- I guess enough to get me in trouble occasionally...

Over the years I've used a few cms scripts, and it wasn't until I found ocPortal that I fell in love.  I've found most of them not to my liking really, and a couple with a steep learning curve, which I really didn't have the time or inclination to fool with.  My hosting service for my website(s) utilizes Mojo with one-click installs, so I got ocPortal as a freebie with my hosting.  It was a recent addition.

I recently found the need to set up and run a collaboration site for a political interest group of which I am the Vice Chairman, so I went to my one-click installs to see what was there. There had been a few new additions there, and I will admit here, that I just went down the line and tried a few before I installed ocPortal.  The minute I first went to set up the site after installing to check it out, I knew just from the look and feel that this was the right choice, and I must say ocPortal fit the bill like a very comfortable and well-fitting glove-- each hour I spend working on and maintaining the site now, I find new things/ways of making it all come together, and for the first time in a long time, I'm actually enjoying maintaining a site-- it's more of an adventure than a chore..

This is the first chance I've really had to stop in for a visit and introduce myself to the community as a newbie here, and I'll just stop here with a HI, as it seems my VERBOSE command is stuck in overdrive!

Nice to be part of the community, and you'll be hearing from me occasionally!

Hi again neighbor!  Thanks for the kind words.

Yes, my site is up and running -- I've had it up and going for almost a month, and am getting ready to post the link for it in the appropriate section to introduce it.

I've used the default theme and customized it slightly (graphics, mainly) to make it appeal to the users that are using it.  Content is being added on a daily basis and of course, I am constantly playing with it to tweak it out here and there, you know, a kid with a new toy!  :P

Of course, that playing around has also caused me to recreate an error that is only seen by admins that has me scratching my head a little, but I think I may know where the problem is, just not sure how to fix it!  I'll be posting that in the right place also to see if anyone has any ideas....

Well, back to the site for me after a couple more posts!!!
