Parakeets and parrots gone wild

Hello,

I'm from Croatia and have a site and forum (joomla and smf2.0.2) regarding parakeets and parrots. At the moment I'm searching for a new platform which offers me more options in taking care of the site and found ocPortal.

It's still a bit overwhelming what a lot of possibilities ocPortal offers, so I'm reading my way thrugh the tutorials…

I'm a bit confused which type of content I should use best for my articles. It's mostly static content, for example about feeding or toys or health, but I hope I'll figure something out… Maybe some of yoU have tips or ideas regarding this.

I hope to get used to it fast and start the site fresh & new with ocPortal soon!

Welcome on board Diana, and there are more than one possibilitys for static content. Like pages or Wiki+ or Blog.. The community can mostley help you in case of questions.

Hi Diana,

It depends a lot on the 'feel' you want for your site.

If you want it to feel like a reference site, then creating individual pages for each topic is good.

If you want it to feel more personal or homely, a blog might be more your style.

They're both very easy.

Welcome aboard, Diana.

A link to your current site would help us decide on what advice to offer, but I think that, with ocPortal, you will have another problem - deciding on which of its features to OMIT.

Hope you enjoy the CMS as much as the rest of us.

Take my advice. I'm not using it!

Yes, I forgot that.

www.papigice.net

At the moment there is a section for example about the environment/cages, feeding and food, health and so on. In a few sections there are categories (for example environment is devided into cages, toys, playgrounds or health into prevention, illnesses, first aid or species is divided into small, medium and big parrots). In there are the articles.

Do you want to have a similar style (in terms of content) for your new site?

Welcome Diana.

There is certainly a lot to take in with ocPortal.

If you wanted to replicate a similar article structure to your existing site then Wiki+ is probably the closest.

Thanks for posting the link Diana. I was 'entertained' and 'frustrated' at the same time. I can 'read' pics, but I am totally ignorant when it comes to Croatian (or hrvatski jezik, or Čakavian, or Kajkavian, or Torlakian), so I missed the best bits, I think!

My involvement with birds is limited to Agapornis rosiecollis, but I do have a story that might be of interest to you (and your readers - if you trnaslate it), called Rambo. It needed a follow-up, and I called it Rainbow. Now that I've revisited them, I think I may copy them to my main website.

More to the point, I think temp1024 has the answer to your query. You could also enhance the articles with a Gallery (or several Galleries) of interesting pics on the species of birds you discuss on your site.

Good luck.

Hello!

Thanks for the greetings!

Yes, I would like to maintain the structure of the present articles, as it is in fact a knowledge base and the users are used to it.

But I plan to use ocPortals many options like galleries, the connection between the forum and a block on the front side of the "portal" and so on…

Fletch I can imagine how it must have been… :$ i will read the txt when I catch a free minute.  :)
