just browsing ocportal

Hi all,

i am looking since a few years for a real good open source community software and a few days a go i came along with ocportal.
What i have read on the homepage and about all the feature which are included i thought i should give this a try. Because its really promising and excatly what i was looking for.

So right now i am browsing through the forum reading and exploring about ocportal to get used to it, also looking at sites built with ocportal. And to be honest, i havent found one site yet where i would say… wow… what a great site. Please dont get me wrong this isnt a judgement just my point of view.

I also wa searching the forum here for js libraries like jquery but i didnt find anything about this issue. Anyways, i want to setup a website which uses a lot of web2.0 features which should include ajax, jquery and others but i am not sure if i can do this with this software. Maybe anyone of you knows if its possible to integrate stuff like jquery and so on.

Also i am missing a nice looking gallery for pics, videos (flv) and music too which should have a lightwindow effect. Using video players with full screen mode, highest rated, most viewed and most commented pics, viedos and music files.

Anyways i will give ocportal a try and will setup a demo site where i can play around with it to figure out what this software can really do. I was really surprised as i looked at websites running with ocportal but they are still using old versions.

But so far i havent found one site who had all the features in which are mentioned on the ocportal homepage. I really would like to see websites who are really using this stunning software and get all out of it.

Please dont be offend by my words its just my point of view so far and i will kepp you updated on my progress with ocportal.

Thanks for reading.

Welkommen!

I don't think anybody here would take offence at opinions that are honestly stated.

But I think you've made the mistake of jumping in 'feet first' without actually researching the total capabilities of this software.

A couple of points:
  • There are no js libraries, but I have incorporated use of jquery by deploying 'Thickbox' (possibly a better Lightbox variant?), which takes care of two of your points
  • The gallery module DOES display 'pics', 'videos' (including flv) and 'music' out of the box

I think, though, that you have to start thinking 'outside the box' and start modifying the basic layout to get the display you want.

Then post it up for all of us to see as an example of a WOW! site.

Deal?

Take my advice. I'm not using it!

deal

Hi Fletch,

this is a deal. And i will try to put up my site as i want it to be. For better understanding you can have a look at my index site which i have already setup and will try to use them in ocportal.

When you look at it you will notice there are various jquery scripts included like tabs, accordeon and much more.

And as i mentioned before i will give ocportal a try and will see how its going to progress. I know to reach my goal i need to highly edit the template for using it in ocportal and at this point i dont know if it is possible to create such a site with ocportal.

But you have already integrated jquery thickbox so i think it should be possible to integrate other jquery scripts as well.

Thanks for your reply.

Nice site; nice template. But I am an illiterate dummkopf who can't read German, so a lot of the content is lost on me!

It may turn out to be hard work, but I think virtually everything in that template is achievable through editing OCP's CSS properties in combination with editing a few of the template files. So if that is the finished product you are looking for it is within your grasp. Others have managed it, so I am sure you can too.

And don't forget to release it to the community when you've succeeded …

Take my advice. I'm not using it!

Welkommen!

How goes the exploration and/or customization effort?

Are you still interested in using ocPortal?

The Galleries are going to be tough, sadly the way they are out of the box is ugh *cough* understated.  So it will require quite a bit of customization to templates and CSS.

I too am trying to achieve much the same goal and come from a similar experience.

Good Luck  or is it Viel Glück!
