Hello to all. I'm from southwest Arkansas and I'm an over the road truck driver (I have a laptop, so I get online wherever I'm at via WiFi, so my IP changes a lot naturally lol).
Anyhow, I play a game called Ultima Online and help run a server called Realm of Tranquility. I figured I would setup the website for it, since I do have a little knowledge with web scripts. I decided to get some hosting through HostGator since it has pretty much what I need without requiring a reseller or dedicated account.
Toyed around with some of the CMS offerings that Fantastico and QuickInstall had and decided to go with ocPortal since it has the main thing I need - full forum/site integration without extra work involved in getting there such as additional addons or extensive manual modifications.
I still have a lot of work to do with it, but it's coming along nicely. The template I'm basing off of the View topic: Tutorial: A Gaming Community Theme (Part 1) - ocPortal that Jean posted (thanks btw for a great tutorial, Jean ). I should have it opened up within the next couple weeks hopefully as time permits.

Welcome.

The site will probably be a 'knockout' when you're done, especially if you've used Jean's gaming theme and instructions. Wish you great success.

BTW, I'm with Hostgator, too. Haven't had any many problems. They absolutely insist that there should be no write permissions - against their religion - and that usually goes against the advice given by the ocPortal installation guide. However, I've raised the issue here in the past and I have been reassured that Hostgator's default settings will not (do not) interfere with how the CMS runs.

Enjoy your adventure!

Take my advice. I'm not using it!

Hi Clark.

Your closed site welcome page is already eye catching (with Jean's theme layout). Looking forward to seeing it open and perusing the site.

Thanks for the welcomes and the compliments thus far :) I hadn't been able to get online for a couple days so now I'm gonna be trying to make it up this weekend lol.

So far on HG's default setup the only problem I have in regards to ocPortal is the Ajax 403 forbidden message I get when I try to download addons through ocPortal, which isn't much of a big deal to me at this point cause I only needed one addon which I had already downloaded (the GeSHi addon - since the server we use utilizes C# for scripting purposes and the syntax formatting would be useful for bug fixes and whatnot).
