Well-settled

Hey everybody, I am Shane Curless.

Anyone remember me from a few years ago? I've returned and decided to use ocPortal again - Nice to see that many improvements have been made - The most important being that it actually allows people to register without having an admin validate it :D

However, I have a slight problem that seems to occur very randomly. Sometimes I get an error about "Conflicting Cookies" (Mmmm cooookies). I have a feeling it is to do with two ocPortals being installed in the same webhost, however we have both set our configs to use different cookie names, and the portals are in different directories and with different MySQL Databases. The error only seems to happen to random users the first time they visit, and is solved by clearing the cookies. Anyone know why this happens?

Hi,

It's a really weird problem. To "fix" please remove this line from the JAVASCRIPT template:

Code

if (!window.done_cookie_alert) window.alert('{!COOKIE_CONFLICT_DELETE_COOKIES;}');

We're going to disable this detection feature in the next patch release, as it behaves too erratically to be viable.

As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.

OK thanks - So the problem is just "cosmetic" and will not affects user's ability to register/login?

Thank you for your help - Arctic Fox claims the error still happens but he might just have something in his cache… I removed that line from all copied of JAVASCRIPT.tpl so it should theoretically be fixed.

Anyway, after messing about with different software I finally remembered about ocPortal, and I'm glad I did! I finally have something I can actually call a webstie :D

Welcome back and I like the theme on our site it looks nice.

I run http://otakuplayground.com and am hopping to make themes and other things for ocportal even though I no longer use it for otakuplayground.com I still love it and feel it could go far with the right help. It needs themes and needs people to advertise for it.

Hehe thank you, I'm doing a web design course at college so I'm learning CSS - It's actually a lot easier than it looks :D

I remember you, you helped to create the theme for my old ocPortal site (DXGame) :) That site never really became popular (mostly because I was just a kid and my games were rubbish haha).

I am hoping this new site becomes popular though.. Not looking to good at the moment however. People are downloading my program, but nobody is making use of the forums :(

From what i learned it takes time to get people to post.
my theme site does not get many posts so I added a few rss feeds to help get content.
If you want to put themes on the theme site you are welcome to. :)

Oh and I do remember your game site. I think I was a member but was not that active.

Oh and back to people posting even I have trouble getting people to post on otaku play ground most people just play the games. I do get 100 posts a day but most of those are from the arcade posting the new scores in the forum.

Good luck.
