I'm Matthew MacNeil, and I hail from New Brunswick, Canada. I use to play around with html, perl, etc 10 years ago for simple websites of my own wimsy, but have decided now to have a go setting up a Canada centric libertarian community. Don't want to get too political on these boards, but I've been fixated on the US election down south, and specificly Ron Paul, the Republican candidate from Texas, who of course stands no chance of winning, but I feel has a message that is exceeding election cycles or borders. I know from news comments that I am hardly the only Canadian inspired by Dr. Paul, but looking around on the internet for any sort of Canadian equivilent to that sort of liberty community is depressing. So my project is to start something myself, like an on-line grassroots libertarian portal, dedicated to Canadian issues. I knew that for a community and forums etc, I'd need to use what I found out was called a CMS. So I went through the fantastico list trying out Drupal, Joomla, phpBB, SMF, a host of others, gave wordpress+buddypress a try… and somewhere in there I stumbled upon ocPortal. It is everything! Even after my first fustrations mainly having to do with how much is given to you right out of the box, I always came back to it. Nothing ever beats having litterly every module consievable, full customization control, branding off by default, for free. It's actually so amazing, thoughts crossed my mind like "How is this possible, why isn't it more popular, what must be wrong that is eluding me?" Luckily I've gotten past such worries and have chosen to just accept these wonderful gifts offered. Hope to see you all around the forums, as I work to make this project of mine a reality with the help of the best website software in the world. PS- On the ocportal.com forums, is there a forum home button I am missing? I usually go first to "Posts since last visit", and there is not to my knowledge an easy navigation from there. |

Forum Home is easily located in the breadcrumb on this site. That breadcrumb is at both the top and the bottom of the post thread. Clicking on it takes you to the forum index. I do wish you the best of luck with your website!
Legends of Nor'Ova: A site powered by ocPortal; a role playing community where you can purchase the LofN core rule book and participate in the forum-based RPG.
Like ocPortal? Want to thank Chris and gang somehow? Then help out in the chat room! It really needs your help! Just open it in a tab everytime you open your web browser, and when you hear a "ding", check it out!

Well-settled |
I too am from New Brunswick (at least I was born and raised there) It's nice to meet another Eastern Canadian on here. Although I am not on the forums here too much lately because I'm so busy with some other projects, I still have to say like you I have tried many other CMS and have found nothing better than ocPortal. Plus the community here is second to none (as far as I'm concerned). Welcome |
