Right-to-left scripts

I can translate to hebrew, but it need to be right-to-left portal. you can use strings instead of just right or left. and put the strings in the right place according to the dir value.

I am adding a 'dir' entry into the global language file which will be used to define the language direction :)

As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.

(I hope my English doesn't confuse you.. I am going to have to describe something complex here)

Ok, I've been doing some research! I should note that I have never been good with languages, as I have such a very poor memory for that kind of thing, but I will try to help you here :).

The global.ini language file now contains the following…

Code

charset=iso-8859-1
dir=ltr

I appreciate there's a difference between language and script, but I don't believe this is of much practical importance.

So you can define the character set and the text direction. This will succesfully flip all the tables so that it reads in the direction you specify. I was confused for a while why my English wasn't flipped, but after a lot of research I now understand that the web browser intelligently senses which script is being output and only flips what is appropriate to be flipped.

There will be an issue in the templates, where we've used [ and ] to surround things. Flipped, this would be ] and [ and look a bit odd. But I'm sure changing the templates a bit wouldn't be a big problem.

Also, the CSS defines the font-family..

Code

   font-family: 'Verdana', 'Arial', 'Helvetica', sans-serif;
I would guess that the web browser will only choose fonts in the specified character set that contain the required glyphs. i.e. it would disregard the CSS if it was not appropriate and choose a better font.

Image text is not a problem, as ocPortal allows you to override images for different languages.
