  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. Hi,

Thank you for showing interest in doing a translation. ocProducts does not get actively involved in translations, but we will give full assistance to those who post problems or ask questions relating to translation in our internationalisation forum.
If you are making a translation that has not yet been completed to an adequate standard, and you bring it to an adequate standard yourself (a high percentage of language strings translated, with passable spelling and grammar), then you will definitely be able to receive a free 2-year registration from us once your work has been made available.
Everything you need to know about translating should be included in our tutorial, but if there is anything we haven't covered, please ask.

In order to change what letters the language system supports you need to change the 'character set'. To change the character set, you need to change the 'charset' value in the 'global' language file for the Lithuanian language to 'ISO-8859-4' (it is currently at 'ISO-8859-1').

Once this is done, you will need to start using the Lithuanian language in ocPortal (i.e. change it from English to Lithuanian). It doesn't matter that your language pack is not yet completed. You can do this by going to http://whereveryoursiteisinstalledat/config_editor.php and changing where it says 'EN' to 'LT'.

Lithuanian buttons

Hi,
I changed all the text buttons to Lithuanian ones and put them into themes/images/LT
After I made a cleanup via admin tools, all buttons showed correctly exept:

new_topic.png for forum
add link, add image, add block - for comcodeeditor

they stayed english

I'm getting 404's on the URLs where ocPortal would look for those particular files:

http://testas.klajoklis.lt/themes/default/images/LT/page/new_topic.png
http://testas.klajoklis.lt/themes/default/images/LT/comcodeeditor/img.png

But others work:

http://testas.klajoklis.lt/themes/default/images/LT/comcodeeditor/code.png

So that explains it - the files are missing :).

Well-settled

I have started translation to Lithuanian and have few questions:

1. What exactly should be done to have language package on ocPortal web site?

2. I have made some translations on launchpad and download some files. After converting .po files to .ini all Lithuanian letters were changed by strange symbols. I'm not professional on this, so maybe someone have advises how to solve this problem.

3. Also I wanted to translate on my ocPortal and then import into launchpad, but when I tried to convert .ini to .po I received this message:
ini2po: warning: Error processing: input bookmarks.ini, output bookmarks.po, template None: 'utf8' codec can't decode bytes in position 8-9: invalid data
The problem occurs when .ini file contains Lithuanian letters.

For both conversations I have used ini2po and po2ini conversation tools.

Hi,

1- We can do this for you, just let us know when you're done :).

2/3- It sounds like in both cases you need to specify the character set to those tools. I've never used them though so I don't know how to do that.

I just want some kind of list like:
1. Translate all sentences in .ini file
2. Translate all pictures
3. Maybe something else (I don't know)

I will try to find out how to specify character set.

Maybe you know other tools to make the same conversations?

Have you read the internationalisaton tutorial? That should help. But also I have just looked myself and it doesn't give a proper list.

As well as .ini files and pictures there are also the default Comcode pages, and some other text files. This stuff is really very non-important though, so don't worry about it.

These other text files you might want to translate are…
  • text/EN/quotes.txt
  • text/EN/rules*.txt
And these files don't need translating but could be replaced with equivalents in your language.
  • text/EN/too_common_words.txt
  • text/EN/word_characters.txt

In the next version of the tutorial I am adding this about images…

If you look under the themes/default/images/ directory you will see there is an EN directory that contains images with English text on. You can copy this to the ISO codename of your language pack (e.g. FR), and then replace the images with translated ones. Make sure you clear your theme image cache (Admin Zone, Tools section, Cleanup tools icon) after doing this. We have the PSD files (requires Adobe Photoshop or compatible software) for many of the images in our downloads database. The font is a commercial font called 'Kabel', so you may wish to use a free font like 'Arial' instead.

You're best asking Sunlightshadow directly. See also this topic:
